UNS — In its educational process, the Faculty of Medicine (FK) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta doesn’t just focus on academics but also pays great attention to the non-academic aspects of UNS medical students. This was evidenced by the numerous facilities within the FK UNS environment that support the development of students’ interests and talents.
On Saturday (3/2/2024), UNS Acting Rector, Dr. Chatarina Muliana, S.H., S.E., M.H., launched the Student Hub, Music Studio, and Postgraduate Building of FK UNS. The inauguration was marked by the cutting of jasmine garlands witnessed by the Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K), the Vice Deans of FK UNS, RKPU members, Dharma Wanita Persatuan UNS, and FK UNS students. According to Dr. Chatarina, these three newly inaugurated facilities will provide many benefits to the FK UNS community.
“The Student Hub will serve as a working space or a comfortable place for students to relax and unwind during the learning process. Meanwhile, the music studio will be a venue for the FK UNS academic community to channel their hobbies, and the Postgraduate Building will serve as a representative learning space for postgraduate programs at FK UNS,” Dr. Chatarina explained.
In his remarks, the Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K), explained that the Student Hub was built as a place for student activities, discussions, or completing assignments.
“So, we allocate this Student Hub as a facility for students, where there is electricity, internet access, and space for discussing academic or non-academic matters, careers, and so on,” he said.
This two-story building is aesthetically designed and attractive, adjacent to the Kopi Lawe coffee shop, which offers various coffee and chocolate beverages, surely making students even more comfortable spending time there.
To support students’ interests and talents in music, FK UNS also inaugurated a new music studio to replace the previous one. Besides being more spacious, this new music studio is also more comfortable and equipped with better musical instruments than before. Not only students, but faculty members and educational staff can also use the facilities of this music studio.
“The study programs at FK UNS are quite diverse, and on average, students are fond of music. Because many find it difficult to find music studios outside to pursue their hobbies, we took the initiative to build a music studio as a manifestation of our support for students’ interests and talents,” Prof. Reviono said.
In addition to the Student Hub and Music Studio, the inauguration also included the Postgraduate Building of FK UNS, which is occupied by the Doctoral Program in Medical Science and the Doctoral Program in Public Health. With the completion of the building renovation and postgraduate facilities, it is hoped that the learning atmosphere and activities within them will become even more comfortable.
This inauguration event was also accompanied by an acoustic music performance titled “Medicoustic 2024,” which is part of the 48th Dies Natalis celebration of UNS. Medicoustic is the first acoustic music performance organized by FK UNS.
Featuring four bands from outside UNS such as RISMIK from FK UNSOED, KONGA 84 from FK UGM, Band FK UPH, Moehost Saturday Morning from Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital (RSUD), there were also several bands from within UNS who enlivened this music performance, such as Revisiii from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS, Voca Justisia from the Faculty of Law (FH) UNS, Sundaesucks from FKOR UNS, and KMF Band from FISIP UNS.
