UNS — The chairman of Indonesia Business Association (Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia – Apindo) and an alumnus of Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Hariyadi Sukamdani, discussed the viable strategies that the government can take to revive Indonesian economic slumped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his presentation titled “Post-Pandemic Recovery: A Resurgence of Indonesia’s Economy”, Apindo delivered several recommendations. One of the offered strategies is pushing the success of vaccination to accelerate economic and health recovery.
“There is a pessimistic scenario with the indicators of increasing Covid-19 spread, slow distribution of vaccines, level of confidence of the middle and upper community has not recovered, and ineffective stimulus policy from the government,” Hariyadi Sukamdani stated in the 43rd Wedangan IKA UNS 43, Saturday evening (6/2/2021) through Zoom Cloud Meeting.
In terms of employment, Hariyadi Sukamdani hopes that there will be harmonization of labor regulation with the National Social Security System (Sistem Jaminan Sosial Nasional – SJSN). He stated that SJSN is a duplication of the Financial Institution Pension Fund program (Dana Pensiun Lembaga Keuangan – DPLK) and Employer Pension Fund (Dana Pensiun Pemberi Kerja – DPPK). He encourages the government to realize bipartite relationship management by prioritizing the spirit of cooperation, providing fiscal incentives to improve employee’s skills, and promoting a legal relationship between industries under civil law instead of criminal law.
“Foreign workers no longer need IMPTA (Izin Mempekerjakan Tenaga Kerja Asing – Permit to Employ Foreign Workers), but still require RPTKA (Rencana Penggunaan Tenaga Kerja Asing – Foreign Worker Employment Plan) except for stockholders/owners, technology-based startup, vocational education, emergency, business visit, and short research visit. However, it is still debatable in formulating RPP,” he stated.
Besides in the human resources sector, Hariyadi Sukamdani also shared Apindo’s view on developing employment and industrial relationship in Indonesia. He stated that the trend of technology utilization would continue and require highly skilled employees while reducing the absorption of labor. According to Hariyadi Sukamdani, technology utilization will create new jobs with better potential than the lost jobs.
He also added that the Covid-19 pandemic became a trigger for changes in how potential companies work and reduce the absorption of labor. This phenomenon is the result of flexible technology adoption and the increasing multitasking job delegation. The improved Covid-19 handling will also speed up the economic recovery, and in 2021 Indonesia’s economy is expected to grow around 3-5%.
Apindo also provided suggestions for improving cross-sectoral investment through the macroeconomy, banking, and capital market with the policy in single-digit credit interest rates, inflation control, financial deepening, and increasing business confidence index. Humas UNS
