UNSThe Bengawan Team from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has once again achieved remarkable success at the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific and Middle East (SEM ASIA) 2024. They earned the title “King of Asia” after securing first place in the Prototype Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) category with an outstanding fuel efficiency record of 983 kilometers per liter during the demonstration at the Mandalika Circuit in Lombok, from Tuesday (2/7/2024) to Saturday (6/7/2024).

Their dedication, innovation, and technical excellence propelled them to this achievement, setting a new team record in the official competition. The Bengawan Team UNS faced stiff competition in the ICE category from RMUTP Racing of Thailand and HAUI Auto from Vietnam, who finished second and third, respectively. However, the Bengawan Team UNS emerged victorious, showcasing superior skills and strategy.

The Shell Eco-Marathon is a prestigious global competition that challenges students to design, build, and drive the most energy-efficient vehicles. The event at Mandalika Circuit attracted numerous talented teams, making it a crucial platform to showcase advancements in fuel efficiency and automotive technology.

Adam Sulthoni Wibowo, the General Manager of Bengawan Team UNS, expressed his pride in his team’s achievements.

“The final round of SEM ASIA 2024 involved over 500 participants from 12 countries in Asia and the Middle East, including Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Alhamdulillah, the Bengawan Team managed to outperform these formidable competitors, demonstrating that our team’s innovation and hard work deserve recognition,” the UNS Mechanical Engineering student said.

Athariq Zhafari Aufar, the Non-Technical Manager of Bengawan Team, added his gratitude to all those who supported the team in achieving the best results.

“We, the Bengawan Team, extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors and especially to the university (Universitas Sebelas Maret) for their moral and material support, which has been the pillar of our success this year and motivation for continuing our research in the years to come,” Athariq stated on Sunday (7/7/2024).

In this competition, the Bengawan Team was mentored by Dr. Hammar Ilham Akbar, S.Pd., M.T.; Dr. Rendy Adhi Rachmanto, S.T., M.T.; and Prof. Dr. Eng. Syamsul Hadi, M.T.
