UNS — This year, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is 45 years old. This year also, UNS officially holds the status of Public University with Legal Entity (PTNBH). With collective spirit, the theme of UNS 45th Anniversary is “Dengan Semangat 45, Meningkatkan Kreativitas dan Inovasi Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi Menuju Keunggulan UNS PTNBH” (With the Spirit of 45, Improving Creativity and Innovation for Higher Education Tri Dharma towards UNS PTNBH Excellence).
The Chief of UNS 45 Anniversary Celebration, Prof. Drs. Djoko Suhardjanto, M. Com (Hons)., Ph.D., Ak., stated that the theme is chosen to uphold the spirit of 45 (Indonesia year of independence), representing UNS age in 2021 and the fighting spirit in the independence. “This is (UNS) 45th anniversary; thus, there is the spirit of 45. If the spirit of 45, it’s like during the independence. The spirit is high, full of confidence, full of works. That is the 45, then we have PTNBH because this year we started (our) PTNBH status. So, we must be creative innovative to continue thriving and be 500 top world universities. Therefore, our aim in PTNBH is to be top 500 universities in the world. That is why we choose the theme,” Prof. Djoko explained in a meeting in FEB Dean Building, Wednesday (17/2/2021).
Prof. Djoko also emphasized that the spirit of 45 refers to the spirit of independence that should be upheld. Thus, amid the pandemic, UNS academic members should stay productive, innovative, and creative. The pandemic will also add new colors to this year’s anniversary celebration with activities and events held online to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Offline events will be held by applying tight health protocols and a mixed model in which most of the attendees join the online event while a limited few attended offline ceremonies.
The online events will collaborate with media in Surakarta, and maximum preparation is conducted to ensure that the celebration does not lose its festivity even though it is conducted online. The anniversary also acts as a reminder for the academic community in UNS that the university has received PTNBH status and placed in cluster 1. These positions demand continuous improvements from all the academic members.
“I hope (the events) will run smoothly. Hopefully, this celebration will encourage, promote, and support the academic community to achieve the best 500 universities in the world,” Prof. Djoko wishes.
Concluding the interview, Prof. Djoko reminded that UNS academic members have a sense of belonging to their university. This sense of belonging is essential for a large institutions like UNS to move forward together with its academic members. Humas UNS
