The Art Indoors #1 exhibition ran from Friday (21/6/2024) to Saturday (22/6/2024). The opening of the FSRD UNS exhibition and open house was officiated by the Acting Vice Dean for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information, Dr. Nooryan Bahari, M.Sn. In his speech, he expressed his pride in FSRD’s participation in the closing series of UNS’s 48th Dies Natalis events.

“I am very proud that we can be part of the closing series of UNS’s 48th Dies Natalis. I hope that what we present in this exhibition can benefit UNS and the wider community,” Dr. Nooryan said.

Dr. Sigit Purnomo Adi, S.Sn., M.Sn., the Chair of the Art Indoors #1 Exhibition Committee, also shared his hopes for the event. “I hope this two-day exhibition can serve as a promotional platform for FSRD UNS to the public. Thus, FSRD UNS will become more well-known and attract prospective students who wish to pursue higher education,” Dr. Sigit explained.

Art Indoors is an exhibition of Fine Arts and Design along with innovative workshops held in celebration of UNS’s 48th Dies Natalis. The bazaar and workshops on the Open House agenda are also collaborations between the Entrepreneurship (KWU) course and the Graphics Studio taught by Dyah Yuni Kurniawati, S.Sn., M.Sn.

This exhibition, combined with workshops, invites art enthusiasts to physically explore, enjoy the artworks, and participate in the workshops. Dr. Sigit also explained the reason behind naming the exhibition Art Indoors #1, with the hope that there will be Art Indoors #2, #3, and so on in the future.

The second day of the Faculty and School Exhibition and Open House marked the culmination of UNS’s 48th Dies Natalis celebration. The closing night was attended by leaders from various departments, the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP), faculty members, administrative staff, students, and other invited guests. The entire UNS academic community gathered in the courtyard of the Dr. Prakosa Building on Saturday (22/6/2024).

The Chairman of the 48th Dies Natalis Committee, Drs. Harjana, Ph.D., stated that the exhibition and open house, which lasted for two days, proceeded smoothly and joyfully. He praised Dr. Techn. Ir. Sholihin As’ad, M.T., the Head of the Exhibition Committee, for meticulously planning the UNS exhibition. The hard work of the entire committee resulted in a successful series of Dies Natalis events.

The exhibition and open house aimed to introduce UNS to the public. The exhibition featured all faculties, schools, the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), the Institute for Educational Development and Quality Assurance (LPPMP), the New Student Admissions System (SPMB), the Center for Excellence in Science and Technology (PUI), UNS Hospital, the Business Development Agency (BPU), all UNS partner banks, and DWP UNS. Various activities took place across the campus, with the high number of visitors forcing some booths to remain open into the evening.

“During the 48th Dies Natalis of UNS, all faculties and schools have opened their doors to the public. With diligent, smart, and thorough efforts, all activities have run smoothly,” Drs. Harjana said.

The Acting Rector of UNS, Dr. Chatarina Muliana, S.H., S.E., M.H., concluded the 48th Dies Natalis celebration with a few messages. She noted that the events held during Dies Natalis were not merely celebrations but also a moment for reflection and evaluation for future steps. The UNS academic community must continue to commit to improving the quality of the university’s three pillars: education, research, and community service. UNS must actively face global challenges and contribute to realizing Indonesia Emas 2045 Vision.

“Let us create new innovations, enhance the quality of research and community service, and continuously innovate in the learning process,” Dr. Chatarina said.

The closing night of the 48th Dies Natalis was enlivened by various performances. The Student Activity Unit (UKM) of the Coordinating for Traditional Arts (BKKT) opened with traditional dance performances. The excitement peaked when the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K), sang rock songs with the Medical Rock Band of FK UNS. Elizabeth Sudira and Dynamite Band from Bank Jateng closed the night, performing songs that were enjoyed by the UNS academic community in attendance.

The parade was lively and featured the UNS Marching Band, a contingent of UNS academic community members dressed in various traditional Indonesian attire, participants from the Solo Batik Carnival, and performers from Reog Ponorogo.

Following the parade, the opening of the Exhibition and Open House took place, which continued until Saturday (22/6/2024). The Exhibition and Open House aimed to introduce UNS to the public. The exhibition included representatives from all Faculties, Schools, Institutes, Centers of Excellence in Science and Technology (PUI), UNS Hospital, the Business Development Agency (BPU), UNS partner banks, and the UNS Women’s Association (Dharma Wanita Persatuan, or DWP). Exhibition booths were set up in front of the dr. Prakosa UNS Building, while the Open House events were held in each faculty.

The coordinator of the 48th UNS Dies Natalis Exhibition and Open House, Dr.techn. Ir. Sholihin As’ad, M.T., explained that this event is the culmination of the 48th Dies Natalis activities that have been ongoing since February.

“Our activities today and tomorrow evening are the final series of the 48th UNS Dies Natalis agenda, which has been running since February. Next to the stage and the lake, there are more than 30 exhibition tents from faculties, schools, institutes, and partner banks. Please visit them. All faculties and schools are also holding open houses featuring various interesting activities, including workshops, competitions, and free consultations,” Dr. Sholihin said.

Dr. Sholihin also mentioned that the exhibition and open house are open to the public, serving as a bridge for the wider community to learn about the activities, products developed, and achievements of UNS.

“We invite all members of the community to come and take a closer look, interact, discuss, and share ideas with the UNS community. Please join us, and we hope this event will be beneficial not only for the university but also for the broader community,” he added.

The Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs at UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.Si., expressed his pride in the closing event of the 48th UNS Dies Natalis. He also extended his gratitude to the entire committee and all parties involved in the success of the event.

“The Open House for schools and faculties is a very good tradition that we need to continue. Through this agenda, we can interact more easily with the wider community. Closer interaction will facilitate our contribution to society and mutual support and strengthening. Thank you to the entire committee and everyone involved in making this event successful,” Prof. Yunus said.

The Bromo Culture Festival 2024 presented a creative blend of art and culture, showcasing Reog competitions, acoustic performances, and a platform for MSME. This year’s festival marked the third iteration of BCF and was part of the 48th UNS Dies Natalis celebrations. The event involved the academic community, including students, staff, and educators, as well as the surrounding community of Alas Bromo.

The highlight of the Bromo Culture Festival 2024 was the Reog Art Performance, inaugurated by the Acting Rector of UNS, Dr. Chatarina Muliana, S.H., S.E., M.Hum., and remarks by the Acting Regent of Karanganyar, Timotius Suryadi, S.Sos., M.Si. The Reog performance featured a competition for the rector’s rotating trophy. Dr. Chatarina emphasized the pride that UNS and the local community should have in their cultural heritage and natural beauty.

“This event is not only a celebration but also a platform to introduce the various important aspects of the Gunung Bromo area managed by UPT PPK UNS,” Dr. Chatarina said at the event’s peak on Sunday (9/6/2024).

Through the Bromo Culture Festival 2024, everyone could appreciate Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. In addition to educational and cultural aspects, the event also highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnership within the Pentahelix framework. The UMKM participants played a crucial role in the existence of the educational forest.

“Through event like the Bromo Culture Festival, we hope to strengthen this collaboration and provide greater benefits for all parties. I am confident that with solid collaboration, we can achieve great advancements together,” Dr. Chatarina added.

This initiative proves UNS’s commitment not only to environmental management through Alas Bromo but also to cultural conservation, particularly Reog and other traditional arts. Besides Reog Dadak Merak or Reog Pakem, there were also performances by Reog Kreasi or Jaran Kepang.

The first day of BCF 2024 featured a high school acoustic competition with 12 bands participating. The following day included performances of Reog Pakem or Dadak Merak, with 12 Reog groups competing nationally. The Reog performances were evaluated by practitioners and academics based on the criteria of Wiraga, Wirama, Wirasa, and Wirupa.

Alas Bromo, located in Karanganyar Regency, is a Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) for forestry education and training. Currently managed by UNS through UPT PPK, Alas Bromo is a production forest spanning 126,291 hectares.

Reog Art Performance Category:

• First Place: Singo Bedjho Gumelar from Surakarta
• Second Place: UKM PSRM Watoe Dhakon from IAIN Ponorogo
• Third Place: PSRM Simo Budhi Utomo from Unmuh Ponorogo

The Abiyasa Boyong shadow puppet performance was presented by puppeteer Ki Dr. Ir. Warseno Slenk, M.Si. The event was also enlivened by Karawitan Sekar Rinonce by the Dharma Wanita Persatuan UNS and the Sesaji Sebelas Maret Dance by Student Activity Unit (UKM) of the Traditional Arts Coordination Board (BKKT).

On this occasion, UNS also invited guest star Endah Laras. The shadow puppet show was supported by the Alumni Family Association (IKA) of the Faculty of Law (FH) UNS, which provided various attractive door prizes.

In his remarks, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., stated that the selection of the Abiyasa Boyong story was appropriate as a manifestation of UNS’s determination to transform towards a better spiritual and achievement-oriented mentality. This puppet show is expected to provide encouragement and spirit as an intellectual and cultural nation.

“The togetherness of the UNS academic community will lead to readiness to face various world challenges with intellectual intelligence and noble character,” Prof. Yunus said.

The Chair of the UNS Javanology Center of Excellence (PUI), Prof. Sahid Teguh Widodo, Ph.D., also conveyed that the establishment of UNS in Solo, which is the center and heart of Javanese culture, reinforces the determination and efforts to preserve its heritage. On this occasion, shadow puppet or ringgit wacucal was performed for the UNS academic community and the surrounding community in a special moment.

“This (shadow puppet show) is also in line with UNS’s vision as a center for the development of science, technology, and art that excels nationally and internationally. This performance also marks the commemoration of National Awakening Day which falls on May 20th every year,” Prof. Sahid, who is also the Chair of the Arts and Culture Division of the 48th UNS Dies Natalies Committee, said.

The Chair of the 48th UNS Dies Natalies Committee, Drs. Harjana, Ph.D., emphasized that this shadow puppet show is not just an art performance but also proof that UNS cares and is responsible for introducing culture to the next generation. The diverse cultures in each region deserve to be preserved based on national culture.

In his closing remarks, he, who also serves as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UNS, conveyed that the shadow puppet show marks the end of the anniversary celebration series. As a conclusion, UNS will hold an exhibition in June 2024.

The Abiyasa Boyong shadow puppet story tells of the kingdom of Astina facing the problem of who will succeed Prabu Sentanu. Resi Bisma himself has sworn not to become King of Astina.

Amidst the negotiations, the soldiers of Gajahoya led by Prabu Gajah Sura attacked. He is a figure who wants to take over the kingdom of Astina. Prabu Sentanu and Resi Bisma were confused and overwhelmed by it.

Bisma said that only Abiyasa could stop the enemy’s attack. Then, he is the one who will later succeed the throne of the Astina kingdom. Bisma set out to find Abiyasa.

After meeting, Abiyasa was finally crowned as the King of Astina with the title of Prabu Kresna Dipayana. He also managed to defeat King Gajah Sura.
