Aspiring Students Share Their Dreams at UNS

Muhammad Ulil Anwar, a participant from Pemalang, shared his aspiration to continue his studies at UNS. He wants to enroll in the Special Education program. His decision stems from his desire to support individuals with visual impairments.

“I had a teacher who was blind and a graduate of the Special Education program. He was a great guide in class and became a close friend outside of school. He inspired me to become a teacher and help others with disabilities achieve their dreams,” Ulil explained during an interview at the UNS Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DTIK) building.

Ulil was not alone. Other prospective students with disabilities, like Shelvy Eightiarini and Wahyu Dhian Artikasari, also expressed interest in studying at UNS. Both are particularly passionate about counseling and psychology.

“I wanted to be a psychologist. However, after consulting with the disability service center, they advised me to apply for the Guidance and Counseling program. This would allow me to guide students and help them become their best selves,” Shelvy, a prospective student from Karanganyar, said.

UNS Provides Supportive Facilities for Students with Disabilities

As an inclusive UTBK center, UNS reaffirms its commitment to accessible education for all students. The university provides computers equipped with NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) screen reader software and technical support from staff. It also offers a disability-friendly exam environment to ensure comfort and confidence for participants.

“My teacher recommended that I take the test at UNS. It is more disability-friendly than other test centers in Central Java. Alhamdulillah, the facilities provided were very helpful. The computer was user-friendly, the NVDA worked smoothly, and it made a big difference during the test,” Ulil said, who felt well-supported throughout the exam process.

Tika, a participant from Sleman, shared a similar sentiment. “From what I’ve heard, UNS provides excellent accessibility for visually impaired test-takers. Alhamdulillah, everything went smoothly today. The facilities, like screen-reader-equipped computers and assistance from the UNS team, were extremely helpful,” she said.

Despite the challenges, all three participants completed their UTBK-SNBT sessions successfully. Ulil encouraged future test-takers to stay healthy and prepare thoroughly. “To my fellow test-takers, get ready, read the questions carefully, stay motivated, and take care of your health,” he advised.

This year, UNS served as the UTBK testing center for ten participants with disabilities. The group included six with visual impairments, three with hearing impairments, and one with a physical disability.

Their journey toward the exam room is part of a larger path to a brighter future. In this journey, UNS has played a crucial role. It has provided accessible facilities and nurtured hope, empowering these students to pursue their dreams.

Admission Process and Available Programs

Applicants can complete the registration process entirely online and from anywhere in the world. This year, UNS offers more than 50 regular Master’s programs and 22 regular Doctoral programs. Additionally, UNS provides research-track options for both Master’s and Doctoral programs, focusing on innovation and high-impact research.

Commitment to Academic Excellence

Prof. Drs. Sutarno, M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the UNS New Student Admission Selection Office (SPMB), emphasized the importance of opening graduate admissions. He explained that this initiative is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to address global challenges through research and innovation.

“We strive to be a hub for scientific development that makes a real impact on society. Our graduate programs at UNS promote collaboration, applied research, and enhance Indonesia’s human resources,” Prof. Sutarno said on Thursday (24/4/2025).

Expansion of Graduate Programs

Vice Rector for Academic and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Fitria Rahmawati, S.Si., M.Si., added that UNS expands graduate student intake. This change will take effect this year. Starting this year, each Master’s program can admit up to 40 students annually. Each Doctoral program will have a capacity of 20 students per year.

Online Registration and Important Dates

The online registration for the first period of 2025 graduate admissions runs from April 15 to May 2. Applicants must submit documents such as diplomas, academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a research proposal (for research-track programs). The university will hold the entrance examinations, including the TPA (Academic Potential Test) and English proficiency test, in May. It will schedule the special/skills/interview tests for May 9, and the university will announce the results on May 20.

Professional Programs Admission

In addition to Master’s and Doctoral programs, UNS is also accepting applications for professional programs. These include the Professional Engineer Program, Professional Architect Program, Sub-specialist Medical Education Program, and Specialist Medical Education Program.
