The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) invites highly-motivated post-doctoral researchers from Indonesia and abroad to join us for a collaborative research project.

Before the walk commenced, the Acting Rector of UNS, Dr. Chatarina Muliana Girsang, S.H., S.E., M.H., led the participants in a group exercise at the KPRI UNS Office Courtyard. Dr. Chatarina was accompanied by vice rectors, directors, and deans from various faculties within UNS. She emphasized the crucial role cooperatives play in the Indonesian economy. For 77 years, cooperatives have actively contributed to the welfare of society, particularly for their members. Within the university context, cooperatives play an equally important role in supporting the welfare of UNS lecturers and staff.

The healthy walk event is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to supporting the cooperative movement and raising awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. In addition to fostering camaraderie, this event aims to strengthen the sense of togetherness and solidarity among the entire UNS academic community.

“I appreciate the initiative of KPRI UNS in organizing this event. I hope activities like this can continue to be held annually, involving more participation from the entire UNS academic community. This will undoubtedly strengthen the sense of family among UNS campus members,” Dr. Chatarina said.

On this 77th Cooperative Day, she called on everyone to continue supporting and developing cooperatives within UNS. Dr. Chatarina is confident that with strong cooperation and commitment, we can create better and more competitive cooperatives. Let cooperatives not only enhance collective welfare but also serve as a means to achieve UNS’s vision and mission of being a superior and high-quality university.

The route for this healthy walk circled the UNS Kentingan campus, passing by the Dr. Prakosa Building, Faculty of Agriculture (FP), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Graduate School, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Nurul Huda Mosque, Faculty of Law (FH), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD), Faculty of Engineering (FT), and back to the KPRI UNS courtyard.

The event invited the UNS academic community, particularly the UNS Bureaucratic Reform Team and the Integrity Zone Development Team. University leaders, heads of bureaus, and faculty leaders also attended. Participants listened to presentations from speakers from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI).

Retno Tanding Suryandari, S.E., M.E., Ph.D., Coordinator of the UNS Bureaucratic Reform Team, reported that the team had drafted several regulations to create an integrity zone. She hoped that following this workshop, the UNS academic community could strengthen the supporting regulations currently being formulated.

“These regulations will serve as our foundation for creating an anti-gratification system that we will implement,” Retno Tanding, Ph.D. stated.

Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, M.Sc., Ph.D., Acting Vice-Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information at UNS, in his opening remarks, stated that UNS is committed to establishing gratification control. The regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) being drafted will serve as guidelines for the entire UNS academic community in executing bureaucracy.

“This whistleblowing system supports the success of several programs such as the integrity zone and the PPID (Information and Documentation Management Officer). For us, it is crucial in fulfilling reporting functions. It is time for us to have both preventive and curative tools related to gratification,” Prof. Irwan explained.

The main workshop session was moderated by Retno Tanding, Ph.D. UNS invited Yuanda Angelia Setiawati, a member of the Task Force for the Gratification Control Program, Directorate of Gratification and Public Services, KPK RI. Yuanda, a specialist in Anti-Corruption Campaigns from KPK, engaged the participants in a lively discussion about gratification. She provided unique case examples of gratification in higher education institutions.

Yuanda clearly explained various forms of conflicts of interest and potential gratifications. She also provided practical guidelines for preventing and handling these situations. According to her, integrity and professionalism are the keys to maintaining public trust.

For example, it is essential to distinguish between acts of gratification that constitute a crime and those that are merely customary gifts from close relatives or family. Understanding such nuances requires in-depth learning to avoid misunderstandings and remain vigilant.

“Gratification received by an individual must be reported by the recipient within 30 days of receipt. In addition to reporting through the university’s Gratification Control Unit (UPG), reporting is now also facilitated through an online mechanism via the application managed by KPK, called GOL or Gratification Online,” Yuanda emphasized.

The UNS Surakarta chapter marked the culmination of the Baluran National Park Roadshow across various prominent universities in Indonesia. The event featured keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Satyawan Pudyatmoko, S.Hut, M.Agr.Sc., Director of the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, along with several researchers. The speakers were experienced individuals with extensive research backgrounds in Baluran National Park.

The event aimed to introduce the various potentials and cooperation opportunities of Baluran National Park for research, work programs, and education to the UNS academic community. As a conservation area dedicated to the protection and preservation of natural resources and ecosystems, Baluran National Park offers significant potential and challenges. This provides great opportunities for academics and researchers to assist in the management of this conservation area.

Baluran National Park, one of Indonesia’s oldest national parks, is a conservation area with original ecosystems and abundant biodiversity. This richness requires extensive research to ensure effective and successful natural resource preservation and conservation efforts.

The park boasts 15 types of ecosystems, various wildlife species, and thousands of plant species. There is still untapped bioprospecting potential, necessitating research to utilize genetic resources for the nation’s advancement and societal well-being.

UNS, with its excellent human resources and comprehensive facilities, is well-positioned to contribute valuable research findings. The university offers Environmental Science programs from undergraduate to doctoral levels, and a Forestry undergraduate program, which require platforms for learning and research. UNS academics in related fields can explore natural resource management in Indonesia for scientific advancement and national benefit.

During this event, the Environmental Science Program and the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) at UNS agreed to collaborate with Baluran National Park in developing the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) initiative. This declaration included agreements on research development and conservation efforts. The collaboration agreement was witnessed by the Director-General of KSDAE and UNS Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Kuncoro Diharjo, S.T., M.T.

“We share a commitment to preserving the environment and raising awareness of the importance of maintaining natural ecosystems,” Prof. Kuncoro said.

Following the declaration, joint program planning will commence, providing opportunities for the UNS academic community to conduct scientific and environmental research.

Adi Dwi Ismanto, the Project Director of UNS ULTRA, explained that the Student Organization (Ormawa) Garba Wira Bhuana UNS, along with the UNS Running Community, are the organizers of this event. He stated that there are two distance categories that participants can join. The long-distance category includes the 50 Km individual and 50 Km Relay 2. In addition to the long-distance category, there is also the 5 Km category and the Kids Dash category with a distance of 1.5 Km.

Not only is this a running race, but this event also features the UNS Running Expo. There are several activities included such as race pack collection for participants, sports and health education, sport running exhibitions, product bazaars, and entertainment.

The initiation of organizing UNS ULTRA is because running sports are increasingly popular among the community. Many cities have held similar events, both on a small and large scale. Within the university’s scope, some of them already have annual running events.

“This is a positive development for running sports in Indonesia. We hope that UNS Ultra can become a prestigious event,” Adi said to uns.ac.id, Monday (29/4/2024).

He added that UNS Ultra is also an implementation of the Green Campus program run by UNS. Running sports have become a medium to cultivate collective awareness by bringing humans closer to nature within the campus environment. The high enthusiasm for running on campus can create good habits for the academic community with environmental awareness.

“We collaborate with a recycling brand. We will recycle all plastic waste generated from this event to be turned into valuable products,” he added.

The presence of UNS ULTRA aims to invite all participants to enjoy the green and environmentally friendly UNS campus. This event offers a cool and lush route for running. Adi explained that it’s rare for road running categories to get a route like this.

The location and route of UNS ULTRA are held within the campus area, circling around each faculty within it. The running route will also be designed to be free from motor vehicles. This is to ensure that participants do not worry about safety and security along the route.

The created route will provide its own challenges for participants. There are quite varied elevations, ranging from uphill climbs to steep descents. Participants will be given a finish/cut off time limit of 9 hours.

Registration Opens

UNS ULTRA is an event open to the public. In the Kids Dash category, the minimum age for children is 5 years old and the maximum age is 10 years old. Other terms and conditions for each category can be found on the unsrun.com website.

Registration opens on May 2, 2024, periodically. There are special offers such as early bird rates and special rates for UNS students and alumni. The quota provided at this time is limited to 1.000 participants.

Participants in the 50 Km and 50 Km Relay running categories will receive a BIB or chest number, running jersey, refreshments, food, and an eco-bag. Special jerseys and finisher medals will be given to participants who complete the race before the end time. 14th IRSA International Conference presents various speakers who are experts in their field. Speakers from Indonesia include Mari Pangestu, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy 2011-2014, and J. J. Sarungu, Professor of FEB UNS. The international speakers include Lisa Cameron, Australian empirical development economist, and Yuri Sato, Executive Vice President of the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization.

Registration is now opened and divided into early bird and regular registration for participants, presenter, and student presenter.
