UNS — Virtual Pre-Job Training was held again by Career Development Center (CDC) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta on Saturday (19/9/2020). The event was held online through Zoom Cloud Meeting and broadcasted live through CDC UNS Career Center YouTube channel.

The Chief of CDC UNS, Dr. Kusnandar stated that through this event, CDC UNS provided knowledge and references for UNS graduates amid the pandemic in two fields: preparation to enter the workplace technically and the empirical picture of the workplace from experienced practitioners. The Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo stated that this event is expected to provide last year students and UNS alumni to have the ability that completes their academic competences.

Two speakers were invited to deliver material to 257 participants with the moderator from Faculty Member of Undergraduate Program in Forestry Management, Faculty of Agriculture UNS, Rezky Lasekti Wicaksono, S.Hut. M.Sc. The speakers were Fadjri Kirana Anggarani, S.Psi., MA as CDC-UNS Psychology Team and Deputy for Human Resources Division PT. Bank BNI Syariah Pusat, Danisworo, S.Psi., MAP, CHRP.

According to Kiki, the short name for Fadjri Kirana Anggarani, S.Psi., MA, three things that need to be prepared to enter the workplace in the new era, developing competence, be professional, and behave politely. Particularly, Fadjri makes a note to be careful in social media, because usually applicants’ social media will be seen by recruiters from the company. In the process of applying for a job, applicants will go through three stages of job selection, the recruitment, selection, and orientation. Kiki shared several ammunitions to face the three stages, becoming a better version of oneself by understanding your potential. Then preparing a cover letter and prepare for the interview well even though it is done virtually.

To complement Kiki’s material, Danisworo discussed the current condition of the industry. There is an increase of complex challenges that appear after Covid-19 pandemic which caused rapid changes in the workplace from the conventional to digital operation. He mentioned that students should never think that once they are graduated, they are fully competent to work. Graduating from a university means someone has 20% of required competence, while the rest 80% will be obtained when someone works in the fields.

New future jobs will be dominated by technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ethics Evaluator, Robot Trainer, and Virtual Culture Architect which require skills demanded by firms such as emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and human resource management. Lastly, specifically, Danisworo shared the criteria of employees looked by his company, graduates who have good adaptability, has leadership skill and are willing to learn new things. These criteria, in his opinion, are more important than academic grades. Humas UNS
