UNS – A wonderful achievement gained by Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta student contingent who won gold medal in Asian Youth Innovation Awards 19th MTE 2020 in Putra World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday (22/2/2020).
The contingent consisted of students from Mathematics Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP): Muhammad Nashiruddin of class 2016, Muhammad Rosyid Ridho of class 2016, Arini Nurfadilah of class 2018, and Dji Hanafit from Mechanical Engineering Program Faculty of Engineering, class of 2018. They made an innovation in the inclusive education.
In this event, they submitted a learning media for blind people. The media is Cube for Inclusive (CIS) Plus. This product is designed to facilitate blind people in learning mathematics, especially geometry.
“The product is designed in a way to maximize (learning experience) for people with disability, because our target is people with blindness, so how to maximize their touch senses to visualize the anstract concept of geometry, because we know that geometry is one of difficult materials in math,” Arini stated when interviewed by uns.ac.id team on Saturday (26/2/2020) in Building D, FKIP UNS.
Besides that, they also expect that the product will benefits people. This is because in today era, students are expected to be able to put into practice what they learnt in class. Thus, they do not only rely to theory but also provide real actions to implement the theory.
In the future, Nashiruddin, Rosyid, Arini, and Dji planned to develop CIS Plus so that it can be applied to special education process in real life. “Of course, this is a positive innovation in the field of education. It also support UNS to become an inclusive campus with the finding from students who are concerned to disability,” stated Nashiruddin. Humas UNS/Zalfaa
