UNS — The Vocational School (SV) in Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organized the First Session of Voxel Talk entitled ‘The Very First Step: Create a Winning Business Idea,’ on Saturday (12/6/2021) through Zoom Cloud Meeting. On this occasion, the Voxel Tak SV UNS invites the Leader of TaniAcademy at TaniHub Group, Endang Rahman Hakim, as the main speaker.

In front of the participants, Endang explains the importance of students’ courage to start as an entrepreneur. This courage is important as currently, Indonesia is facing a challenge with the 2030 demographic bonus. “We are benefited from the Indonesia position at the top 16th greatest economic power in the world, coupled with Indonesia’s GDP almost reached Rp 16,000 trillion,” Endang reveals.

Taking those aspects into consideration, he states that there is a various business field that students can learn and get engaged in such as trade, transportation, and warehousing, construction, processing industries, including agriculture sector managed by TaniHub. Among the many types of business sectors, Endang considers that agriculture, forestry, and fisheries are some of the promising sectors. Because even with the Covid-19 in Indonesia, which leads to the economic crisis, these three sectors do not face a significant contraction.

“We can see that the processing industry plummeted to -6.18 percent. The trading sector dropped to -7.59 percent. But agriculture, forestry, and fishery only contracted to -0.01 percent. Because food stocks are the basic needs of everyone,” Endang explains.

Moreover, Endang also mentions that right now, the world must solve the challenge to fulfill the future food needs, with the estimated world population increased by 35 percent by 2050. This condition encourages numerous parties, including the global governments, to secure the food needs for their population. Food production must increase by 100 percent to fulfill the needs and to answer this challenge. “The food production capacity must exceed the population growth because developing countries have the highest population growth, which means they consume more food products,” he added.

Considering the demographic data, from 2014 to 2019, Indonesia faces a rise in population ranking from the 71st to 63rd position globally. Meanwhile, in ASEAN, Indonesia is ranked 5th.

Assistance provided by the government

In the first Voxel Talk, Endang also shares the current information related to the programs provided by the government to help Indonesian citizens, especially the young generation, in starting their entrepreneurship. For instance, the public can join a community development partnership program. The partnership program is organized by an SOE with an aim to improve the capacity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by empowering the community.

“The priority is given to certain sectors such as trading, agriculture, plantations, livestock, fisheries, and services. The criteria for the program are having a maximum gross revenue of Rp 25 billion/year, have the legality of a business entity, is not an affiliated business, the business has been running for at least one year, and has not met the banking credit requirements,” Endang explains.

Further, he explains why it is the right time to start as an entrepreneur now. Firstly, due to the demographic bonus from 2030 to 2040, Indonesia will have high population growth and internet penetration. Secondly, with a total of 1.31 percent in population increase, dominated with the young generation, the number of internet users will be increased more than 4-fold, considering the number of internet usage in 2011 and 2021.

“Entrepreneurship can be one of your considerations. Currently, the business trend in Indonesia stays on digital platform creation as the main channel. Right now, all business sectors need an online shop, graphic design services, copywriting, online course, and internet marketing,” Endang concluded. Humas UNS
