UNS — The complex of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Central Campus in Ir. Sutami Street No. 36, Kentingan, Jebres has an atmosphere, philosophy, and layout that are heavily infused with Javanese culture.

This layout can be seen from the placement of buildings in UNS Kentingan Campus that adopt the pajupat concept. This concept was discussed by uns.ac.id in the article “Does UNS dr. Prakosa Building Shape is Similar to Soeharto Burial Site in Astana Giribangun?”

With the same speaker, Dr. Titis Srimuda Pitana, an expert in UNS Javanese Architecture, uns.ac.id trying to discuss other uniqueness of UNS Kentingan Campus that represents Javanese culture. The first uniqueness is the philosophy of the UNS Kentingan Campus layout that implements Lingga Yoni philosophy. This concept can be observed from the position of the dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building with UNS Lake on its eastern part.

Lingga Yoni is similar to segara gunung, segara is the sea, it has feminine characters, gunung (mountain) has masculine characters, which is proven from the buildings around the lake. The buildings tend to be feminine, the motherland. While the buildings that soar into the sky are masculine, the celestial father,” Dr. Titis explained.

Dr. Titis mentioned that Lingga Yoni philosophy, which is closely related to Javanese culture, is the result of “sacred love between human and their environment”. Therefore, buildings that implement the Javanese architectural concept will always be interpreted as sacred. As an archaic community, the Javanese society always views important life matters, including symbolism and life cycle or events with rites or religious values.

“The result of sacred love always brings something to life, which is related to creation. Therefore, Javanese architecture is related to the creation, and creation is always seen as something sacred. Therefore, Javanese architecture never left Lingga Yoni concept,” he stated.

In addition to the UNS Kentingan Campus layout, uns.ac.id also asked about dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building – G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium – UNS Library, which was constructed in one line. Dr. Titis stated that the construction could not be separated from the concept of Trinity, which also applied to the lights in dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building. The Trinity concept in Javanese culture is referred to as telupak or telu sing cemepak (the available three). He explained that there are three basic constructions that always applied by the religion, community, and university as a foundation or guidelines. For example, the concept of Trinity in Christianity that believes Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

“These three are Trinity. So, let us think about what stronger than this concept. Religion also uses Trinity, and science also uses the Trinity. Knowledge is always supported by ontology, epistemology, and axiology. And the way of life is also Trinity,” he stated.

In higher education, the Trinity concept is applied through the Higher Education Tri Dharma, including education, research, and community services.

“In campus life, there are also three components, the leader, the auditorium is the community, and the library is the knowledge. These three components are inseparable, including the Higher Education Tri Dharma,” Dr. Titis added. Humas UNS
