UNS — Three students from the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta shared the importance of stunting prevention through a creative video. Their video also won 1st place in the Health Video Competition held by Gerakan Sosial Cegah Stunting (Stunting Prevention Social Movement) promoted by Presidential Staff Office (KSP) RI. This competition was held in collaboration with AMSA and CIMSA Indonesia, a medical student association in Indonesia, and took the theme of “Nutrition – Good Nutrition for A Better Generation.”
UNS team consisted of Reza Pahlevi Prastawa, Elizabeth Yuaninda, and Marsa Zaidan, who won over the other 20 teams who participated in the competition. Reza explained that their participation in the competition is not solely to win but also because of their concern over the stunting issue in Indonesia.
“Not only to win but also how to attract community’s attention. How to make people touched with the video.” Reza explained on Wednesday (16/2/2022).
UNS Team attempted to provide understandable knowledge on the importance of maintaining health, especially in newborn babies. The team shared numerous information in the video. Departing from the definition of stunting, the causes of stunting, prevalence, parents’ role in ensuring children’s nutrition, and other actual steps in preventing stunting are discussed in the video. In preparing the video, the team also tried to act as a community member to ensure that people could understand the messages they shared.
“We participated in the competition because this is a collaboration from KSP as a stakeholder or government who are close to and is expected to listen to the young generations or university students concerning the stunting issue,” Reza stated.
According to Reza, the socialization from the government and healthcare providers should be supported by university students, especially in medical fields. These students could take a role in solving the stunting problems by implementing their knowledge.
“Our role as the young generation and medical students are vital to helping other parties who care about the health issues in Indonesia,” he stated. Humas UNS
