UNS — The Midwifery Students Association (Himadan) Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organizes Scientific Training, starting on April 30th to May, 7th 2021. The event is divided into three sessions with four topics covering scientific essays, public posters, education videos, and scientific papers. The first material discussed on the first day is the scientific paper, which was delivered by UNS Outstanding Student in Diploma Program 2021, Rizka Lailatul Rohmah.
In her presentation, Rizka explains that a scientific paper is a work that discusses a problem following certain scientific methods that contain facts and data, as well as the result of the previous research, which is written in a coherent and systematic manner.
“Scientific paper includes papers, articles, working papers, theses, dissertations, and others. Ideas for this work can come from research articles, books, news, observation on the surrounding condition, discussion, and can be obtained through the implementation of Observe, Imitate, and Modify principle,” Rizka explains.
On the second day, Himadan UNS invites Arini Nurfadhilah, a student of the Mathematics Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS, who discuss a similar topic in scientific articles. “According to Mark Twain, there is nothing such a ‘novel idea.’ We just take old ideas and put them in a mental kaleidoscope, and create countless new combinations. However, in the end, they are just a used idea,” explains the winner of Gold Medal Asian Youth Innovation Award Malaysia.
Arini reveals that the process of writing a scientific paper usually follows the Observe, Imitate, and Modify principle. This principle, however, is not a form of plagiarism. The main difference lies in the modification stage that aims to improve the initial idea. “This modification also serves as a mechanism to minimize errors. Thus, we can simplify the modification we made,” she explains on the second day, Sunday (02/04/2021).
Before concluding the session, Arini shares some suggestions and tips on writing a scientific paper. The first stage is to find ideas, followed by searching for references to develop the idea. Next, establish a framework and start writing. After finished, evaluation is needed before submitting an article to a competition. Humas UNS
