UNS — Several Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students held Community Service Program (KKN) with various activities in Sidomulyo hamlet, Ketitan Village, Juwiring Sub-District, Klaten District. All of the events were held by considering the health protocols.

Nine students participated in the program, Amalia Nurhalimah, Muhammad Rifqy Abdallah, Muhammad Satrio Kurniawan, Muhammad Aminullah Thohir, Nalud Darojatil Ula, Doni Rifaldi, Giovanny Rifqi Adjie, Anjas Fadhilah, and Rizky Dwi Satrio. On Friday (4/2/2021), they made Family Medicinal Plants (toga) area. This program was implemented by preparing a place in open lands to be planted with Toga, such as turmeric (Curcuma longa Linn.) and kencur (Kamferia Galanga). This explanation was provided by Satrio, a student of Statistics Program FMIPA UNS Class of 2017.

The Toga area aims to create a center for medicinal herbs in the hamlet. They also made fertilizer and will share the production process with the community on Sunday (14/2/2021). The fertilizer was made from manure and hay. Their other program is Jogo Tonggo, an invitation for the community to perform health protocols. “This program was implemented by creating a poster and display it in strategic places. We also conducted house to house socialization,” Satrio explained.

During the socialization, Satrio and friends also distributed hand sanitizer they produced from ginger and lime. They also conducted socialization on age-related diseases and teaching in the local Al-Qur’an school (TPA). Representing his friends, Satrio hopes that their programs will benefit and be sustainable in the community.

“We hope that this (program) can serve as a wake-up call for university students that we are too elitist for the community. Our gap with the community is too far, so that we need to go down and close the gap for knowledge transfer to occur. Hopefully, what we did can benefit the community and can be sustainable,” Satrio concluded. Humas UNS
