UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held Festival Naskah Nusantara (Nusantara Script Festival) on September 25-29, 2017 at the UNS Library. This festival was held as an information literation medium and scientific tour on manuscripts archived and preserved by the philologists and libraries in Indonesia.
There were 20 libraries exhibiting ancient manuscripts which belong to Mangkunegaran Surakarta, Kasepuhan Cirebon, Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta, Kesultanan Yogyakarta, Lesbumi PB NU, and Museum Ranggawarsita.
“This activity aims to introduce the various ancient manuscripts and the values to the academic community, all Indonesian people, and especially the young generation of the nation’s future leaders. The festival is expected to familiarize all levels of society with the ancient texts in Indonesia,” said the Head of UNS Library, Muhammad Rohmadi.
In addition to the ancient manuscripts exhibition, Nusantara Script Festival had several activities as part of the series of events. Among them is the international seminar on archipelago scripture on the theme of “Ancient Manuscripts as a Source of Science and the Archipelago Civilization: Strengthening Unity and Social Restoration” which will be held at UNS Inn.
“In the seminar, will present as keynote speaker of GKR Koes Moertiyah Wandansari from Keraton Surakarta and some Indonesian and foreign speakers,” Rohmadi explained.
Following the international seminar, book discussions will be held on Wednesday, September 27th, 2017. The book discussion will dissect a book entitled “Sisi Lain Diponegoro: Babad Kedung Kebo dan Historiografi Perang Jawa, serta buku Negara dan Kekuasaan di Jawa Abad XVI-XIX” (Diponegoro’s Other Side: Babad Kedung Kebo and Javanese War Historiography, as well as the book of State and Power in the XVI-XIX Century Java). humas-red.uns/Sav/Eln
