UNS — The Islamic Law and Civilization Research Group (GR) from the Faculty of Law (FH) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta collaborates with the Majelis Taklim Forum in strengthening the implementation of Islamic marriage law. This majelis taklim becomes the strategic partner in the implementation of a community service program to reduce divorce cases during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The Islamic Law and Civilization Research Group FH UNS conducted a community service activity at Mushola Baitul Ilmi Sabrang Kulon, RT 3, RW 35, Mojosongo, Jebres, Surakarta. The community service program team decided to host dissemination on “Strengthening Islamic Marriage Law Principles and Understanding the Rights and Duties within Marriage Relationship.” This dissemination aims to assist the community in implementing a balanced applicable law within their daily life.

Considering that Indonesia is a country with a majority of Muslim communities, the Research Group took the initiative in reducing divorce cases by strengthening Islamic marriage law by targeting the members of majelis taklim. One of the GR FH UNS Team members said that family harmony is crucial during this ongoing pandemic.

“The local government policies on Covid-19 pandemic are affecting the economic condition and family psychology. There are numerous heads of families losing jobs due to layoffs, which also affects household harmony. Therefore, there is a need to strengthen the principles and natures of marriage, especially from the Islamic point of view,” explains Naufal on Saturday (18/9/2021).

This community service activity also aims to establish a partnership with the Majelis Taklim Mushola Baitul Ilmi for marriage insight and information sharing from the Islamic point of view. This activity was held on Sunday (15/8/2021). Naufal explained that Jebres is selected as a strategic community partner because of their solid and continuous teamwork. This dissemination and enforcement of Islamic marriage law are expected to broaden and reinforce the majelis members’ understanding of the law.

“The results of this dissemination and the interactive question and answer session during the socialization are expected to reinforce the household condition in a balanced and harmonious manner. Thus, this program can reduce the number of divorce cases in Surakarta,” said Naufal. Humas UNS
