UNS — The Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta celebrates its 3rd Anniversary on Friday (13/8/2021). Despite its young age, FKOR UNS has participated in various national and internal sports championships, thanks to its talented and qualified human resources.
The Dean of FKOR UNS, Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, stated that currently, FKOR UNS is ready to support the Indonesian team at the Paralympic Tokyo 2020 in Japan. “We contribute there. Several teachers, including me, will go there (Tokyo). (We are) in para-athletic, para-cycling, para-badminton, and para-swimming training team,” Dr. Sapta Kunta explained on Thursday (12/8/2021).
In 2018, FKOR UNS was also involved in Asian Games and Asian Paragames 2018, sending 250 students, teaching assistants, and FKOR UNS Faculty Members as the committee, coaches, and managers. The Faculty has brought home medals and got a proud name for Indonesia on the international stage.
“In several championships, we won medals. In 2019, I was involved as a manager in Badminton Championship in Basel, Swiss. We brought home four gold medals,” the Dean explained.
In his third year, Kunta set a high target for FKOR UNS development to get all A-level accreditation from the National Higher Education Accreditation Board (BAN-PT) for all programs and improve international qualification for accreditation. Currently, the Undergraduate program and Master’s program at the Faculty are accredited with A-level, and the Doctoral program is set to follow suit.
“Our Doctoral program is new, with B-level accreditation. Next year we target to get A-level accreditation for all programs. Thus, as a part of UNS, we could achieve the performance contract with the Rector in terms of achieving the best accreditation level,” Sapta Kunta said.
He also hopes that FKOR UNS development will help improve the sport quality in Solo, particularly in improving the sports science implementation. FKOR UNS shapes qualified, reliable human resources and creates product innovation that benefits society, for example, the sports calculator. “This product is used by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) and in Central Java. It is related to the evaluation models of training plans that sports stakeholders could implement,” the Dean added.
The Faculty also continuously updates its curriculum to provide the best athletes and human resources, including the adjustment with the Merdeka Belajar promoted by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The Faculty opens an opportunity for students to intern in several sports clubs and train around Solo to develop their skills and share the appropriate technology as sport science ambassadors.
Currently, FKOR UNS is holding various activities and programs that will improve the welfare of outstanding athletes through scholarships. Thus, participating in improving national sports quality and improving people welfare through higher education. Dr. Sapta Kunta added that to commemorate its 3rd Anniversary, FKOR UNS invited the Minister of Youth and Sports RI, Dr. Zainudin Amali, to provide an academic speech online on Friday (13/8/2021). In the anniversary ceremony, the Faculty will also grant the Anugraha Widya Kridhangga award to Prof. Dr. Sugiyanto and the Anugraha Widya mahasadha award to Prof. Dr. dr. Muchsin Doewes. Humas UNS
