UNS — Four Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students created another innovation amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Under the supervision of Rohula Utami, S.TP, M.P., Anita Nurul Apriliana (Food Technology), Fadhillah Brimantara (Agrotechnology), Leni Irawati (Agribusiness), and Cornelya Venny Wijaya (Agribusiness), created a peanut shell processing product named Oicaabar (Prebiotic Peanut Shell in Snackbar).

To the uns.ac.id team, the team shared their reason for developing Ociaabar. The prolonged Covid-19 pandemic that impacted various sectors and the difficulties faced by the community to get vaccinated prompted the Group to invent a means to improve people’s immune system.

“This is the reason for Student Creative Program (PKM) Entrepreneurship UNS to create a low-sugar snack with a property to increase the immune system,” Anita explained on Monday (13/9/2021).

To uns.ac.id team, Anita stated that peanut shells have 47.19% cellulose that could be used to improve the immune system. This content acts as a prebiotic that could stimulate the growth of good bacteria in the body to perform food fermentation.

“This food fermentation will create short-chain fatty acids that are useful for regulating the immune system and responding to inflammation. All of these processes could improve the immune system, including preventing the infection of SARS COV that causes Covid-19,” Anita added.

Ociaabar product has been marketed for two months, starting on July 2021, through an e-commerce platform that increasingly attracts millennials’ interests. With unique packaging, the product is sold at IDR 15,000 with a total of five Oicaabar 90 grams in each packaging. The product information is accessible through social media on Instagram and Facebook “Ociaabar”.

“Through this product, the community is expected to consume healthy foods by utilizing the ingredients that are often considered as waste. Oicaabar that promote the healthy food concept also invites the community to continue implementing a healthy lifestyle,” Fadhillah said. Humas UNS
