UNS — The Faculty of Agriculture (FP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta officially opened the Teaching Farm Closed House in Jatikuwung, Gondangrejo, Karanganyar District. The modern farmhouse is a grant from PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk., which was officially opened on Wednesday (6/10/2021) by the President Director of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk, Dr. Hc. Tjiu Thomas Effendy and Dean of FP UNS, Prof. Samanhudi.
The opening ceremony was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony and signing of inscription. The ceremony was attended by the Regent of Karanganyar District, Drs. Juliyatmono, M.M., Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, and Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs, Prof. Sajidan.
In his opening remark, Prof. Samanhudi explained that the modern farming house has automatic settings, has a 12 x 103 meters area, and was completed in 3 months. The Dean also explained that poultry procurement has started on 1 October, and the house will raise 20,000 poultry that will be ready to be harvested in 20 days (27-30 days). “It takes days, no longer months. Ideally, the farming house size should be 12 x 120 meters, but due to the limitation in available lands, it is not satisfying (for now),” he added. Prof. Samanhudi hoped that this farming house could improve students’ and faculty members’ competencies through practices, research, internship, and other learning activities. He is also committed to developing the farming house to be better.
Karanganyar Regent, Drs. Juliyatmono, appreciated the collaboration between PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk and UNS. He hoped the closed farmhouse could create entrepreneurs in animal husbandry—the President Director of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk, Dr. Hc. Tjiu Thomas Effendy explained that the collaboration was a form of gratitude from PT Charoen Pokphand for the bachelors who have contributed to the development of his company. “Without university, we will not have bachelors who contribute, work, and struggle together,” he stated. He added that his company strives forward and assists university to provide a program that will shape graduates that are ready to work in the industry. “To be bachelors who are ready after graduated, recruited by companies ready to work and understand what and how modern poultry farming works,” he added.
Supporting FP UNS Dean Prof. Ahmad Yunus stated that the Teaching Farm Closed House could be used in implementing Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program, including industrial internship. “PT Charoen Pokphand also operates in seven countries, a multinational company. If UNS graduates work there, it will improve UNS performance indicators because it collaborates with a multinational company. Similar to the research,” Prof. Yunus stated.
Before concluding his remark, the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs hoped that the teaching farm closed-house could improve animal husbandry graduates’ competencies and prepare them for entering the workplace. The ceremony was followed by signing the minutes of the opening ceremony by President Director of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk, Dr. Hc. Tjiu Thomas Effendy and Dean of FP UNS, Prof. Samanhudi.
