UNS – Werna Ramadhan, a student from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, was honored with the Excellence Award at the Global Entrepreneurial Dream Chasers Competition 2023 at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. Werna, who is pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, participated in the competition held from October to December 2023 in Taichang City, Suzhou, China.
The Dream Chasers competition aims to foster innovative ideas and entrepreneurship among students. Werna introduced a project called ZipTech, a revolutionary wireless drone designed for efficient monitoring and distribution in agriculture. His project is focused on the Philippines to address challenges in traditional farming. ZipTech aims to reduce labor-intensive practices and attract the younger generation to agriculture.
“The issues addressed by ZipTech include the inefficiency of existing traditional drones in the Philippines due to cost, security, chemical waste, limited flight, complexity, and dependence on wind. This hampers agricultural automation in the country. The target market is Filipino farmers seeking a modern, cost-effective, and user-friendly solution to enhance productivity,” Werna explained, as quoted from ft.uns.ac.id on Wednesday (January 24, 2024).
This international competition marks Werna’s third participation, and this time, the scale of the event is broader. In his experience with the cross-country team, Werna stated that this experience provides a new perspective on technology development and the ability to understand the conditions of different countries.
“Participating in this competition has been an additional driver for me to continue seeking self-development opportunities at the international level. I hope this achievement can be a motivation for myself, the Faculty of Engineering, and those around me,” Werna said. HUMAS UNS
