UNS – Another proud achievement was made by a student of the Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. Recently, Meisyari Luthfia from the S-1 Urban and Regional Planning (PWK) Study Program managed to finish as the 1st Place Individual Foot Orienteering W20 Dieng Orienteering Race 2023.
Meisyari Luthfia, who is often called Mei, joined this competition as one of the representatives from the Student Association for Nature Lovers (PMPA) Ajusta Brata FT UNS. Apart from Mei, there were six FT students who took part in this competition, namely Maulana Al-Ghifari, Muhammad Nafis Hafizhan Gandang, Dwi Prasetyo, Shalsabila Ayuningtyas, Eva Nur Safitri, and Tasha Tashlihatul Amaliah.
Mei explained that orienteering is an outdoor activity that tests navigation skills, speed and accuracy. This activity requires a map and compass to help find certain points called control points.
“The type of competition is cross-country orienteering which requires participants to find control points sequentially in the fastest time possible. The format of the competition is the middle distance with a distance of 4 km and the women’s competition category under 20 years old,” Mei explained as quoted from ft.uns.ac.id, Monday (19/6/2023).
This competition took place in the Dieng Plateau Area, Banjarnegara on 19-21 May 2023. She admitted that she did not expect to be able to reach the podium. It is because the competition was quite tight and there were many other participants who were more experienced. However, Mei’s hard work practicing for about a month paid off completely. During the week before the competition, she and her colleagues practiced more intensively, starting with physical training, running and orienteering simulations in the campus area.
“The hope is that we can continue to develop and improve our orienteering skills and continue to achieve victory. Apart from that, we hope that we can pass on orienteering material to younger siblings at PMPA Ajusta Brata FT UNS,” she concluded. Humas UNS
