UNS — Three students from the Chemical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won 1st place in the National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIN). They are Kalimaya Qolbi Sani, Nur Sayekti, and Sabela Sanata Ramadhani.
This competition was organized by the Geodetic Engineering Student Family of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta on March 16-18 2023. Kalimaya Qolbi Sani, who is commonly called Maya, brought up the idea of a shampoo bar made from celery extract and citronella grass.
“This shampoo is intended for people with hair loss and dandruff because the ingredients found in celery and citronella are able to overcome these problems. The content of the active compounds citronellal, citronellol, and geraniol found in citronella can overcome dandruff. In addition, the active compounds limonene, vitamins A and C found in celery are also able to prevent hair loss problems,” she explained as quoted from ft.uns.ac.id, Monday (8/5/2023).
Through this innovation Maya and her team succeeded in eliminating 80 teams from various universities in Indonesia. When it was announced that they had won the first-place title, they said they had no expectations at all.
“Honestly, before that, I didn’t expect at all to be able to win first place because the performances of the other finalists were also extraordinary and cool. So, when it was announced that we won 1st place, I felt shocked and really couldn’t believe it. I also didn’t expect it. Of course, we are also grateful because we can make UNS proud in this prestigious and very competitive competition,” she said.
Through this achievement, the student who is currently in the sixth semester hopes that in the future they will be able to get more ideas and innovations to be able to develop this scientific paper. This is so that they can continue to make UNS proud in various national scientific writing competitions. Humas UNS
