UNS — Group 177 of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a “Waste Bank Socialization” Klodran Village, Colomadu Sub-District, Karanganyar District on Sunday (22/8/2021). This event is one of Group 177 KKN UNS programs in building community empowerment. Fifteen people from Posyandu, PKK, Hamlet Chief, Covid-19 Task Force, and Karang Taruna participated in the event.
This socialization aims to educate and provide a reference for the community on effective and efficient waste bank management. Klodran village has a main issue in people’s low awareness of the importance of waste management as reflected in participants’ questions on the solution to make people aware and consistent in managing waste. The socialization was implemented under a strict health protocol.
Denok Marty Astuti, a member of Youth Movement for Waste and Environmental Management (Gerakan Orang Muda Peduli Sampah dan Lingkungan Hidup – Gropesh) Solo Raya, Waste Bank Community for Real Work (Komunitas Bank Sampah Kerja Nyata) Solo Raya, Kampung Iklim (Climate Village) Kitiran Yosoroto, and Solo Creative City Network, delivered materials on Waste Bank. In her material, Denok explained how to change waste into money to help people’s economy and establish a waste bank in the community.
“The main problem in Klodran Village is waste, low community awareness, and nobody cares. Therefore, as a village government, I greatly appreciate KKN UNS for conducting Waste Bank Socialization. Hopefully, this event could solve the waste issue or at least educate the community as something urgently needed now,” Andi, Klodran Village Chief, stated.
Similar appreciation was shown by the Chief of Waste Bank Socialization Committee. According to Harist Maulana, socialization runs well and received positive feedback from participants who participated actively in the socialization.
“Hopefully, this event could gradually solve the main issue in Klodran Village through the education for Klodran people,” Harist Maulana stated.
As field supervisor, Lely Ratwianingsih stated that the socialization program is the cornerstone for environmental awareness that creates added values from Klodran Village. Properly managed waste will bring a solution for village issues and empower the local economy. Appropriate waste management also creates a clean and healthy environment. Humas UNS
