UNS — Group 375 of Student Community Service Program (KKN) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a series of events to empower people’s economy in Gajahan Village, Pasar Kliwon Sub-District, Surakarta.

The Team was supervised by Pomo Warih Adi, S. Pd., M.Or as the field supervisor (DPL) and has nine members. The members are Arshy Abdullah Abdad from Food Technology Program, Inna Imro’atu Sholiha from the Mathematics Program, Intan Larasati from Soil Science Program, Intan Muliasari from Chemistry Education Program, Iqbal Albani from Fine Arts Program, Iqlima Aulia Fiddina from Chemistry Program, Jagad Gumelar from Informatics (Computer Science), Annida Lili Emeraldin from Agrotechnology Program, and Jenni Fertanauli Saragih from Law Science Program.

The empowerment programs include distributing herbal beverages kit, providing and planting plants, and creating a website. The distribution of herbal beverages kit aims to introduce various herbal drinks with natural ingredients that are easy to find. Group 375 KKN UNS member Arshy Abdullah Abdad, explained that this program is his Group’s effort to provide sales ideas for the community members amid the ongoing pandemic.

“The herbal drink kit we distributed are 60 boxes of wedang uwuh package and leaflet on the benefits of the beverage,” Arshy Abdullah Abdad explained.

The second program, providing and planting plants, aims to improve local people’s skills in growing plants. The cultivated plants are also expected to provide yields to meet people’s daily needs.

“The KKN was held from 3 August (2021). We also combine it with a socialization program on the danger of waste that aims to educate the local community on the danger and household waste sorting to create a clean environment,” Arshy Abdullah Abdad said.

And lastly, on creating a website, Group 375 KKN UNS encouraged the Gajahan Village community to build and improve their village’s image on the internet.

“Later (red: website) will be managed by the local community. Hopefully, the website could improve the image of Gajahan in cyberspace and provides opportunities for Gajahan people to publish their history, pictures from Gajahan, culinary, MSME, and other interesting sport through the website,” he concluded.

Besides the three community empowerment programs, Group 375 KKN UNS also implemented other programs such as mathematics consultation for school children, socialization of Pancasila values inculcation for elementary school, and counseling for making pedaled hand sanitizer tools. Humas UNS
