UNS — The Chairman of the Board of Professors (DP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Dr. Suranto, M.Sc., Ph.D., conducted a handover ceremony for Inventory Equipment Grant under the Community Partnership Program (PKM) to CV Multi Global Agrindo (MGA) Karanganyar. The inventory equipment handover was received directly by Mulyono Herlambang, S.P., M.M., the Director of CV MGA. During the ceremony, Prof. Suranto, as the PKM Team Leader, was accompanied by two UNS lecturers, Muhammad Indrawan, S.Si., M.Si., and Suratman, S.Si., M.Si.
The Grant provided is the Portable Drum Incinerator to incinerate or destroy various types of waste, especially sterilized waste, masks, and others. This tool is considered a fast and efficient means to prevent the misuse of waste. This Grant is part of a series of community services that have been conducted for a while. Previously, the PKM Team of the Biology Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UNS provided raw material to handle virus attacks on horticulture plants such as chili plants, tomatoes, watermelon, eggplant, and others. “To support the program objectives, on this day, we handed the incinerator for virus-infected plants. Viral attacks must be handled properly. Otherwise, losses due to this disease can reach 20 percent to 80 percent,” explained Prof. Suranto as the PKM Team Leader, Tuesday (31/5/2022).
Viral infection on horticulture plants must be controlled to prevent the losses that haunt horticulture farmers. This tool is useful not only for horticulture viruses but also for handling viruses that attack animals, for example, in cases of avian influenza, Prof. Suranto added.
Prof. Suranto hopes that the use of the Portable Drum Incinerator can be useful for the horticulture farmer in eradicating the virus. He also hopes that the partnership established between UNS and CV MGA Karanganyar can go on smoothly because many students have done course experiments and field trips in the institution.
“Hopefully, MGA CEO and Director kindness, who has been collaborating with UNS for a long time, can also last for a long time. Similarly, students’ field trips and experiments, which have been conducted in collaboration with this institution, can go flawlessly,” concluded Prof. Suranto. Humas UNS
