UNS — In the last month, the Covid-19 infection rate is peaking in Indonesia. On 20 July 2021, Indonesia recorded a daily new case of 38,325. The recent case contributed to the total national positive case of 2,950,058, with 2,323,666 recovered and 76,200 deaths.

Responding to this condition, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, stated that UNS would keep the offline learning method (PTM) under strict conditions and gradual implementation. The requirements for offline learning are students have permission from their parents, slowing down of Covid-19 infection rate, and receiving a permit from the Covid-19 task force of Surakarta. The offline learning will be implemented gradually, which means students will be divided per batch to participate in the process.

Prof. Jamal also added that with the increasing number of Covid-19 positive cases, UNS does not want to take a risk to involve new students in the Introduction to the Campus Life Event for New Students (PKKMB) UNS which is planned to be held on 13 August.

“In the odd semester (the learning activities) start in August. Thus, student admission is around 13 August. However, with the current condition (we don’t want to take a risk) and being held offline. It will be online as the previous year,” Prof. Jamal stated during the qurban cutting ceremony on Wednesday morning (21/7/2021).

He added that to held PTM, UNS would consider the principles of conditional and gradual carefully. In this case, in one room on 20-25 students will be allowed to enter, only two courses a day, and each course only have 100 minutes period. “Students must have consented. If they are not willing (to participate), do not force them to. The rooms are limited and not all (red: full room capacity). The next semester is for semester one or seven, which only needs a lab. For (students) in semesters seven, nine, and eleven, they can have an offline examination,” he added.

Student Vaccination

Regarding the vaccination process for students, Prof. Jamal explained that UNS received vaccine slots from the Army (TNI AD). But he wanted that students vaccinated in UNS are those staying around Surakarta first because of a concern that students from other regions come only for vaccines, which will cause a high mobility rate.

“Alhamdulillah, we got vaccines from TNI AD. They actually prepare vaccines for all of our students, all of them. But we have students from around Java and outside Java. We do not wish students from outside (provinces/islands) to come to Solo only for vaccines. There is also a possibility that students have been vaccinated in their hometown,” Prof. Jamal explained.

As reported previously, UNS has started Covid-19 vaccination for students from 5 July 2021. In one day, UNS provides 1,000 vaccines for students in all faculties to register. Humas UNS
