UNS – Midwifery Student Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa Kebidanan – Himadan) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an online discussion on Personal Branding on Social Media on Tuesday (28/7/2020) through Google Meet application. In collaboration with Emina as a media partner, Himadan UNS invited Citra Purnamasari from Emina Market Development as a keynote speaker for her experience in the world of personal branding. The event was attended by 50 students of Midwifery Program UNS. On this occasion, Citra explained that it is important to state what one’s have in mind.

“Most people make a mistake in seeing beauty because they only see the physical aspect of it. Lip aloud, speak what is on your mind and be yourself and you will be beautiful with yourself,” Citra explained.

Indonesia is in the sixth position of social media user in the world, thus, according to Citra, social media has an important role in presenting someone. Citra considers that social media is the marketing in personal branding that represents oneself and become the other people’s first impression in judging someone. To build personal branding in social media, someone needs to shows their true personality. In Instagram, someone needs to pay attention to their profile picture, username, real name, account category, and informative bio. Business contact is also necessary. Before posting on Instagram, determine the theme of the feeds and shows personal interest.

In using social media, some rules require attention to building good personal branding. These rules are, among others, being polite, keep confidential information, spread positive content, and reply to comments in a good manner and does not offend others, avoid hate speech, hate comment, and cyberbullying even in-jokes. Focus on the objectives in using social media.

Additionally, Citra also reminded to not pay attention to haters because we cannot control another person’s response but we can control our response to other people. Citra also stated that personal branding needed to be conducted consistently. Posting should be to express and not to impress. Do not hesitate to show our branding, because personal branding is something that must be done consistently. Humas UNS
