UNS — The Structural Engineering Education Study Program Student Association (Himapensil), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, held a community service activity at the Darul Falah Orphanage, Sukoharjo Regency. This Community Service Program (PKM) was held on Saturday (11/12/2021) with a strict health protocols implementation.
This community service aims to increase the Structural Engineering Education (PTB) Study Program students’ awareness towards the community, especially children at the Darul Falah Orphanage. The activity started with a variety of exciting and interesting games. The games, among others, are marbles racing, guessing words, and painting. The children at the Darul Falah Orphanage looked very enthusiastic in playing the games.
After the game, the activity is followed by vegetable plantings, such as tomatoes, chilies, and eggplants. This vegetable planting activity utilizes secondhand goods such as plastic bottles as planting media or pots. It aims to train the children’s creativity at the Darul Falah Orphanage in using plastic waste and secondhand goods. The activity was concluded by providing education on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and a healthy lifestyle to children at the Darul Falah Orphanage.
Muhammad Kuat Mulyanto, as the Chair of the Himapensil FKIP UNS PKM Committee, hopes that the committee and students can increase their social awareness through the community service program. This means that they can develop a better awareness of their surrounding communities that need attention and a helping hand.
“I hope that through this community service activities can increase the committee and PTB FKIP UNS students’ awareness towards the surrounding environment. Hopefully, they can be more aware of people around them who need attention and a helping hand,” Muhammad hoped.
Muhammad also hopes that this activity can motivate FKIP students and the general public to increase social awareness. In this way, more people will be helped.
