UNS — Bengawan Unmanned Vehicle (UV) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta team launched a prototype ship named ‘Mandakini Catra’ on Friday (17/3/2023) at the Center for Science and Technology Excellence (PUI) Javanology UNS. This ship will be used in the International Roboboat Competition 2023 in Florida, America on March 22-28, 2023.
The launch event was attended by the Vice Rector UNS for Research and Innovation, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo; the Dean of FT UNS, Dr.techn. Ir. Sholihin As’ad, M.T .; the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program UNS, Prof. Eko Surojo; and Supervisor of Bengawan UV, Dr. Nurul Muhayat.
In his remarks, Dr. Nurul Muhayat said that since Bengawan UV was established in 2017, 47 awards have been won, both nationally and internationally.
“This year, with incredible struggles, we dared to go to the competition venue directly in Florida. I hope that the students can maximize and get good achievements. We ask for prayers from all UNS academics so that Bengawan UV can be successful and bring achievements,” he said.
The Dean of FT UNS, Dr.techn. Ir. Sholihin As’ad, M.T. also advised that students can take lessons through this competition process.
“There is an engineering process that they do from designing and so on. In addition, the students also not only learn to design and make prototypes, but also learn to seek funding and so on. This can be used as a provision in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo as the Vice Rector UNS for Research and Innovation said that solid team support was needed.
“In participating in every competition, you definitely need the support of a team, it can be a technical team, sponsors, public relations, and so on. Therefore, collaboration between divisions is very important. All participate in the competition, but only the position is different. Good luck and hopefully we can make UNS and Indonesia proud on the international stage,” he said.
This competition was attended by 24 teams from various countries, while the Indonesian team came from UNS and the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The Bengawan UV UNS team, which will go to Florida to take part in the International Roboboat Competition2023, consists of 4 students.
