UNS — The Master and Doctoral Program in Development Extension (PP)/Community Empowerment, School of Postgraduate studies Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta collaborated to hold the Workshop on Strategy to Write Scientific Publication on Reputable International Journals. Two speakers were invited to the workshop: Prof.Dr.dr. Loeki Enggar Fitri, M.Kes, Sp.ParK from Universitas Brawijaya (UB) and dr. M. Lutfan Lazuardi, M.Kes., Ph.D. from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on Wednesday (8/12/2021).
In the opening remark delivered by the Head of Doctoral Program in Development Extension (PP)/Community Empowerment UNS, Dr. Sapja Anantanyu stated that this workshop is a routine agenda of both postgraduate study programs. He also stated that the workshop is an effort to encourage and prepare students to graduate on time because the scientific publication has not been taught as a habit.
“But hopefully, in the future, it can become a part of our habits to achieve knowledge development to the global level. We understand that Development Extension Program is a multidisciplinary program, and (the students) have a diverse background from all walks of life; thus, hopefully (we) could enlighten all (of them),” Dr. Sapja explained.
The workshop was opened by the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies UNS, Prof. Drs. Sutarno, M.Sc., Ph.D., greatly appreciated the workshop. Prof. Sutarno thanked the Master and Doctoral Program in Development Extension (PP)/Community Empowerment for their efforts to build scientific culture in the program and provide a means and media to enrich knowledge and experiences and share information on scientific articles writing.
“Scientific publication is essential in the process and cycle of a university because science we are working with as academics will be crystalized in writing and new findings to be published,” Prof. Sutarno stated.
Prof. Dr.dr. Loeki Enggar Fitri, M.Kes, Sp.ParK, as the first speaker, shared the method to write a scientific article with publication opportunities in reputable international journals. In the presentation Prod. Loeki stated that a researcher was demanded to have a different research outcome in the forms of scientific publication, programs, software, prototype, and patented works or intellectual property rights.
In his material, M. Lutfan Lazuardi, M.Kes., Ph.D., shared the strategy to publish in the reputable international journal, including the manuscript preparation and selecting journal outlets. He also motivated the participants to not give up when they got rejected. He also mentioned some rejection causes, such as, plagiarism and the absence of novelty in the study.
“But it is important to understand that it was a process that, although not easy, but by no means impossible,” he added.
The workshop was concluded by Dr. Dwiningtyas Padmaningrum, the Head of Master Program in Development Extension, who thanked the speakers and stated that the workshop is a strategy to start research by reading literature and finding an appropriate topic to be developed in a study. Humas UNS
