UNS — The Master Program in Art Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a webinar on “Art Education during the Covid-19 Pandemic” through the Zoom Cloud Meeting with more than 100 participants.
The Head of Master Program in Art Education UNS, Prof. Dr. Mulyanto M.Pd., explained that this webinar aims to bridge a partnership between his program and art teachers in the Course Teacher Association (MGMP). Two speakers were invited to the webinar: Rohmadin, S.Sn., M.Pd., and Yustian Patrich Rosalia S.Sn., M.Pd., both are alumni of the Master Program in Art Education UNS. The program moderator was Sri Kristati.
The first presentation in the webinar discusses the method to handle cabin fever through transition dance from distanced learning to limited face-to-face learning. Yustian Patrich Rosalia S.Sn., M.Pd., explained that cabin fever could be solved through creative activity. Yustina introduced the UNIC concept: Unity, Noun, Interesting, and Creative Process, which can be applied by teachers and students. UNIC concept could be implemented by teachers through their study materials. The aspects of works visualization, presentation, technology usage, and the role of social media could increase students’ interest in learning.
“Teachers need to have creative ideas that provide direct examples to students. For example, audiovisual that attract and stimulate. Stimulate students’ feelings to change what they feel when cabin fever occurs,” Rosalia explained on Saturday (25/9/2021).
Providing freedom for students to express themselves is another method to handle cabin fever. Collaborative learning is a solution offered by Rosalia in a dancing course. “I think teacher and students need to be honest on how to increase student’s creativity by exploring the great young generation ideas these days,” she added.
In the second presentation, the participants were invited to discuss the growth mindset by the second speaker, Rohmadin, S.Sn., M.Pd., who explained that art education with a growth mindset starts with adaptation, similar to new students adapting to their new school. He also explained that based on the growth mindset, personal ability, others’ ability, and the pattern of the phenomenon around students will become psychology feedback to increase positive energy.
A growth mindset is aimed at students to increase their resilience in learning. Rohmadin explained that a growth mindset would train the student to be more adaptive and reframe challenges as means to achieve success.
“This opens students’ mindset so that they are not easily giving up. Eliminate such things so that positive thinking can produce the desired learning atmosphere,” Rohmadin explained. Humas UNS
