UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta student won another achievement at the national level competition. Arifin Septiyanto from Natural Science Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) won the 3rd position in Essay Competition Demand 3.0. at the same time, he was seeking to complete his undergraduate thesis. The competition held by Development Economic Student Association Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Jambi focuses on “Intensifying Gen Z Role as the Agent of Change in the New Normal”.

Focussing on economic sub-theme, Arifin proposed his writing on ‘Nata De Ganyong: Contemporary Product from Umbi Ganyong to Support Local Creative Economy in Colo Village Kudus District through Hexa Helix Collaboration’.

Nata de ganyong is a food innovation product that combines nata de coco and ganyong (Canna Discolor) starch. Ganyong starch is produced from tubers that are common in Mount Muria hills in Colo Village, Dawe Subdistrict, Kudus District. Arifin shared his wish to develop a local genius-based creative economy by combining the existing products with local accentuation to the uns.ac.id team on Monday (10/5/21).

Nata de Ganyong Brings UNS Students to Win Competition Demand 3.0 Essay Competition

“Ganyong tubers are common in my hometown, Kudus,” he said.

Arifin also suggested a marketing strategy for Nata de Ganyong through the Hexa helix concept as a more complicated networking concept to increase knowledge exchange among stakeholders. He added that the current rapid e-commerce development would support Nata de Ganyong’s product introduction and marketing.

With his innovation, Arifin successfully entered the Best 15 and won the 3rd place after outdo other participants from big universities such as Universitas Gadjah Mada, Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Diponegoro, and UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.

Currently, this innovative product could be found in Kudus. Arifin hopes that the product could be mass-produced to improve the local community’s economic condition. Humas UNS
