UNS — Alif Sholihin, a student of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, recorded an extraordinary record. The Fine Art Education Program student from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS won 12 out of 70 competitions he participated in in 2020. Five of the 12 winnings were from international competitions: International Multimedia Engineering Technology Competition, ASEAN Youth 2020 Creative Content, Southeast Asia Global Innovation Challenge, Chemistry Innovation Challenge, and World Cyber Games.
For this outstanding record, Alif Sholihin was invited by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, to his office in dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building UNS on Monday afternoon (15/2/2021). The meeting was also attended by the Director of Academic Reputation and Student Affairs, Dr. Sutanto, S.Si, DEA, and the Chief of UNS Academic and Student Affairs Bureau, Drs. Rohman Agus Pratomo.
“I invited my student in Fine Art Education Program that won an international competition. After I received the news, I asked for his number, (then) contacted him and the Director (red: Dr. Sutanto, S.Si, DEA), I asked for direct discussion in my room,” Prof. Jamal stated to the media.
On this occasion, Alif Sholihin shared his background for participating in many competitions during 2020. He stated that as a student, he doesn’t want to miss the existing opportunity. He feels that being a university student is a vital opportunity to collect achievements before entering the workplace. He stated that he decided to be passive during his study and joined Bengawan Team in his second semester. He achieved a competitive attitude and willingness to accomplish excellence from Bengawan Team because it often participated in international competition.
Openly, Alif Sholihin shared the number of rewards he collected from his 12 triumphs. “There are a few that has not been disbursed. In total, around IDR 80 million from April-December. The one from South Korea is not disbursed yet. Insyaallah, (it will be) used for father-mother umrah because it is one of my dreams and to be a world winner is also my dream so that I will pursue it,” he said.
Privately, uns.ac.id also asked about the support from faculty members and his plan after graduating from UNS, to which Alif Sholihin said he received tremendous support from the faculty member. As for his future study, he stated that he wants to study abroad. Between the meeting, Dr. Sutanto, S.Si, DEA, said Alif Sholihin’s achievements are a priceless gift for UNS because it will inspire other UNS students to accomplish similar achievements. He also shared the plan to develop the Student Activity Unit (Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa – UKM) that specifically accommodates and stimulates students’ competitive spirits.
“The Rector wants that these students can be gathered (in a unit), whether in UKM Student Innovation or Student Creativity,” Dr. Sutanto, S.Si, DEA stated.
At the end of the meeting, Prof. Jamal handed a special souvenir and promised free Master study in UNS for Alif Sholihin. Humas UNS
