UNS — Youth Counseling and Information Center Cakra (PIK-R Cakra) Student Association (UKM) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a Peer Educator Training on Saturday – Sunday (1-2/5/2021) through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application. UKM PIK-R Cakra UNS invited two speakers to the training, drg. Widwiono, M.Kes., the Head of Representative of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Central Java and Achmad Yani, Central Java Duta Genre Influencer 2020.
In his session, drg. Widwiono discussed the policies and strategies for Family Life Preparation for Youth (PKBR) national priority program. In his presentation, he explained that the challenges for families in the 4.0 era include parent’s bustle, rapid technology development, social and religious norm decline, and total education by school teachers. In Law Number 52 of 2009, article 47, the government regulates that family development is implemented through family resilience and welfare. “This policy aims to support the family to implement its function,” drg fully. He added that the approaches implemented in the program applies human life cycle, starting from Bina Keluarga Balita (BKB) (Family Building with Toddler), Generasi Berencana (Genre) (Planned Generation), Kelompok Usaha Peningkatan Pendapatan Keluarga Sejahtera (UPPKS) (Family Income Improvement Group), and Bina Keluarga Lanjut usia (BKL) (Family Building with Elderly). BKL aims to improve the resilience of families with toddlers and children and fulfill their rights to grow. This approach is followed by Genre to build strong adolescence in preparing family life. “Then UPPKS aims to empower family economy in improving their welfare. Lastly, BKL has a role in improving elderly care and empowering vulnerable families,” he emphasized.

Widwiono explained that Genre – BKR program aims to shape adolescence into the golden generation through high education, competitive jobs, planned marriage, active community life, and a healthy lifestyle. The discussion is followed by the material from Achmad Yani, who discussed the contribution of peer education in shaping a planned generation. Finally, the Duta Genre for Central Java explained that a peer educator is a person who acts as a source of information for their peer groups.
“Peer educator is needed because someone will be easier to share their thoughts and feelings in front of a peer educator. A peer educator must pay attention to several things, mastering the material and methods, conduct planning, understand participants, use exciting media, systematic delivery of information, and pay attention to appearance,” Achmad Yani explained.
