UNS — Tens of women volley-ball and hang-gliding athletes in Central Java Contingent in the Nationa Sports Week (PON) XX Papua, participated in a series of physical training at the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Manahan, Saturday (20/3/2021).
The athletes went through various tests under the trainers’ supervision, including four anthropometric tests and seven physical measures tests. In the anthropometric test, the athletes were measured for their height, weight, arm length, and sitting height. The physical measures examine leg muscles’ power through the vertical jump, agility, quadrant test, durability, and others.
The Dean of FKOR UNS, Dr. Sapta Kunta, met between the event and explained that these tests aim to determine athletes’ condition. “There are 14 volley-ball athletes and five hang-gliding athletes. (The tests) are what needed to generally determine (the success) of the current training and preparation, whether Central Java athletes have the needed modality on need improvements,” Dr. Sapta Kunta stated.
He said that based on the physical training result, he would have coordination with the trainers’ team to evaluate each athlete’s condition. If they consider the need for improvements, physical training will be added according to the evaluation results. According to the training parameters, Dr. Sapta Kunta explained that the practice has the parameters according to the national athlete quality in PPLP Ragunan. He added that if these athletes could get near to the national parameters, it is greatly desired.
“For example, there is a parameter for an athlete running speed in 60 meters. There is also a benchmark for this parameter at the national level,” he explained.
Dr. Sapta Kunta added that before they went through the test, the athletes were asked to stretch in front of the FKOR UNS building. This process aims to enable them to show their best performance during physical training with high intensity. Humas UNS
