UNS — The Indonesian Language Education (PBI) Doctoral Program, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, organized the International Conference of Humanities and Social Science (ICHSS). The international conference was held virtually through the Zoom Cloud Meeting on Wednesday (8/12/2021). The UNS Rector, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, directly opened the event with nearly 200 attendances.

Prof. Jamal highly appreciates the activities initiated by the PBI Doctoral Program, stating that, to this day, the humanities field of study has been underestimated under comparison with the exact science. However, the humanities field is crucial for society. This conference is a testament and an effort to elevate the dignity of the humanities field.
“This conference proves that humanities field of study is greatly needed by the community. This humanities science can maintain the unity and integrity of Indonesia, population,” said Prof. Jamal.

Other than re-introducing humanities science to the community, Prof. Jamal also considers that the conference could have a positive impact on the PBI Doctoral Program UNS. He also hopes that this conference can encourage the PBI doctoral students to be more productive in writing scientific articles, as well as researching according to the subject of their knowledge.

This year ICHSS invites three main speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Aisyah Endah Palupi, M.Pd., the Attaché for Education and Culture (Atdikbud), Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Manila, Philippines; Associate. Prof. Sukree Langputeh, Vice Chancellor for Foreign Relations at Fatoni University, Thailand; and Prof. Dr. Andayani, M.Pd., the Head of PBI Doctoral Study Program UNS.

The ICHSS 2021 organizing committee chairman, Dr. Imroatus Solikhah, M.Pd., states that aside from the main speakers, this international conference also prepares parallel sessions for the presenter participants. The presenter participants will present their articles, which the organizing committee has previously selected. The selected articles presented by the participants will be submitted to several affiliated journals and proceedings.
