The event is also an effort to align Indonesian youth’s spirits with Sumpah Pemuda on 28 October 1928. The event was then opened by the Chairman of the Board of Professor UNS, Prof. Suranto, who stated that Sumpah Pemuda reminded Indonesians to leave their regional egos and put forward the national spirit. “We appreciated this event as an implementation of UNS commitment as Benteng Pancasila (Pancasila Vanguard), which is applied through the availability of six places of worship in UNS,” Prof. Suranto stated.
The event was followed by the Declaration of Kaum Muda Pancasila (Pancasila Youth) UNS through the recitation of Ikrar Panca Karsa Pancasila; ‘We are Kaum Muda Pancasila UNS pioneer campus and Pancasila Vanguard pledge: first, we are ready to keep and defend Pancasila as the only nations and state’s ideology. Fourth, we are ready to maintain and defend the unity of the Republic of Indonesia. Fifth, we are ready to support and implement all efforts for community empowerment towards a just and prosperous society based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
Follow-Up for Pancasila
The declaration was followed by a discussion with Dadan Adi Kurniawan S.Pd., M.A. (PSPP UNS researcher), Nur Fatah Abidin, S.Pd., M.Pd.(PSPP UNS researcher), and Zakky Musthofa Zuhad (President BEM UNS), as speakers, and Aulia Fatimatuz Zahra (Directorate General of Student Regeneration BEM UNS) as moderator. According to Dadan Adi Kurniawan, S.Pd., M.A., Sumpah Pemuda commemoration should not stop at remembering but should serve as reflection and follow-up to implement what has been planned. “We need to learn from Sumpah Pemuda and learn the history of Sumpah Pemuda, and take its spirit for our future,” Dadan stated.
Nur Fatah Abidin, S.Pd, M.Pd., added that the conceptualization of Pancasila at the community life is dynamic, not limited to an ideology but also daily life values. Therefore, the young generation needs to be aware that in any time period, the young generation always brings changes. Zakky Mustofa Zuhad stated that Sumpah Pemuda is a symbol of unity that focuses on youth’s commitment as someone who feels restlessness towards their county. In 1928, the young generation was restless because they were apart. When restlessness was not present, nobody had the feeling to move forward in creating benefits, and the youth always moved forward to solve an issue. “Pancasila is not just words, but need to grow and (have a strong) root in the community. Hopefully, Pancasila will continue to be the narrative with deep-rooted implementation,” Zakky stated. Humas UNS
