UNS — In commemoration of its 63rd anniversary, PT Wijaya Karya (Wika) tbk held a public lecture titled Wika Goes to Campus at the Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. The event, which was attended by more than 200 students, took place in the hall of Ir. RPM Kasifudin building, Tuesday (1/3/2023).
This public lecture was also attended by the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, and the leaders of FT UNS. There were three speakers: Hananto Aji, S.T. (PT WIKA’s Director of Operations I), Ir. Akhmadi Tri Cahyono, M.M. CRGP, (Director of Operations II PT WIKA Gedung tbk), and Hermawan Dhewayanto (Senior Vice President of PT WIKA). Meanwhile, the moderator of this lecture was Ir. Ary Setyawan, Ph.D., the Head Program of Civil Engineering Study FT UNS.
Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo said that students must have four competencies, namely: academic skills, critical thinking, communication skills, and management skills. Academic skills can be seen in a high Grade Point Average (IPK) because the IPK is one of the foundations in registering or applying for a job. The next competency is critical thinking, which means thinking critically when dealing with various problems.
“You as a student must build creativity, you can participate in activities such as student creativity programs, and so on. Then, the third competency is communication skills. This is because in the field of work, no matter how great the ability is, but the communication is not good, it will become an obstacle. Then, finally, management skills, because the higher the competence, the better time management must be,” he explained.
The presentation from PT WIKA was represented and delivered by Hananto Aji, S.T. as Director of Operations I PT WIKA. He, as the Civil Engineering FT UNS alumni, presented information about PT WIKA and his experience in having a career at PT WIKA. He explained that the industrial fields in PT WIKA are very diverse, such as investment, realty & property, infrastructure & building, energy & industrial plants, and industry.
“Some of PT WIKA’s contributions to the country include getting involved in the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Train, Kelapa Gading-Velodrome Light Rapid Trans (LRT), Automated People Mover System (APMS) Soekarno Hatta Airport Train, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport Revitalization, and so on,” he explained.
Finally, before closing the presentation, Hananto Aji, S.T. shared motivation to all participants who wanted to enter the work-life.
“You must continuously develop competence, either by participating in training, internships, workshops, or seminars before entering the work-life. Then, practice social skills, management skills, a strong mentality, and self-awareness by reflecting on one’s capacity or competence and making the best decisions,” he concluded. Humas UNS
