UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, shared the real steps performed by UNS in solving the incident that killed Gilang Endi Saputra, a UNS student who was killed in the Basic Education and Training (Diklatsar) Program Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 Jagal Abilawa UNS or Student Regiment (Menwa) UNS.
To the journalist in the latest Press Release, Wednesday (3/11/2021), Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho offered his condolences for the loss of Gilang Endi Saputra in Ditlatsar Menwa UNS on 24 October 2021. Prof. Jamal deeply regrets the incident.
“UNS stands (on this matter) is clear, (we) support the investigation and adjudication on this case, so that truth and justice are withheld for all parties. Therefore, UNS is supportive and cooperative with the current investigation process conducted by the police, in this case Investigating Team from Surakarta Police Office,” Prof. Jamal stated.
The support and cooperation from UNS are implemented through providing the widest possible access to the Investigating Team to acquire all needed documents, investigate all relevant locations in UNS, and call any student, faculty member, and academic staff to be questioned by the Team. The Rector also stated UNS provided a legal advisory team for students, faculty members, and academic staff, questioned by police to ensure that their legal rights were met during the process.
The university also maintains close communication with Gilang Endi Saputra’s family through visits to provide moral supports for the family who live in Karangpandan. The visits also serve as a means to listen to the family’s aspirations and feelings that they would like to share.
“On 30 October 2021, family representative and student representatives from BEM UNS had a meeting with UNS executive board, represented by Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Director of Academic Reputation and Student Affairs, and Chief of Evaluation Team for UKM Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 Jagal Abilawa UNS. In the meeting, UNS executive board accepted the aspirations from the family and student representatives,” Prof. Jamal said.
UNS also offered healthcare assistance, especially psychological assistance for the family, who welcomed the offer. The Rector of UNS assigned a team led by dr. I Gusti Bagus Indro Nugroho, Sp.K.J., M.Kes., for this task and the schedule for assistance and counseling will be discussed further with the family members. In the university, internal evaluation started with the formation of the Evaluation Team by the UNS Rector on 25 October 2021 through Rector UNS Assignment Letter Number: 4461/UN27/KP/2021. The Team has a duty to review all aspects of student association management in UNS starting from UKM Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 Jagal Abilawa before moving to other student associations.
“From the early review, the Evaluation Team has recommended to freeze UKM Korps Mahasiswa Siaga Batalyon 905 Jagal Abilawa UNS. The decision was regulated through Rector UNS Decision Number 2815/UN27/KH/2021 dated 26 October 2021,” the 8th UNS Rector explained.
The Evaluation Team continues its work by reviewing all relevant documents and interviewing students and student association supervisors. The review process is running, and the Team continuously cross-checks the information to ensure the validity of the information they received. The Team also opens a wide opportunity for all parties with valid information that ware relevant to this case to share their information as data or basis of information to solve the case. Humas UNS
