UNS — The family of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held annual silaturahmi to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr 1442 H on Monday (17/5/2021). The event was held offline in UNS Auditorium and online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application. The event is also live-streamed on the UNS YouTube channel.
This annual event is a routine tradition of UNS that aims to strengthen friendship and build collective values among all UNS academic members. The event was attended by UNS academic members, alumni, and honorable invitee such as Prof. Dr. Ir. K.H. Mohammad Nuh, DEA, Minister of National Education 2009 – 2014 and the current Chairman of Indonesia Waqf Board, who acted as speaker.
The event was opened with Al-Qur’an recitation from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS student; Muhammad Hadziq Munajih. The procession is followed by an opening remark from the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, who wishes Happy Eid Al’Fitr to all attendees and mentioned that the special day is unique as it is celebrated on the same day with Christ Ascension. “This phenomenon marks Allah Tuhan Yang Maha Esa greatness who wants His creation to live side by side, strengthen friendship, and maintain religious tolerance,” Prof. Jamal stated.
This Eid is the second Eid that Indonesian celebrate amid the Covid-19 pandemic, bringing special opportunity for the Muslims in Indonesia to complete their fasting while facing the Covid-19 pandemic. Prof. Jamal explained that people’s health and faith support Muslims in completing Ramadan fasting amid the pandemic. Ramadan brought blessings and teachings for Muslims to continue staying istiqomah in their daily life. This is in line with the efforts in fighting the pandemic in which people need to remain istiqomah in applying health protocols.
“The manifestation of piety as a mark for us returning to purity is when we obey government’s recommendation to keep physical distance, wearing a mask, washing hands, and not going back to our hometown,” Prof. Jamal added.
Before concluding his remark, Prof. Jamal emphasized that the essence of Eid Al’Fitr is not coming home but maintaining purity whenever we are. Humas UNS
