UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, shared the materials on UNS as Pancasila Vanguard Initiator in the Webinar on Place of Worship in University as an Inter-religion Communication Means and Student Character Education held by the Alumni Association (Iluni) of Universitas Indonesia (UI), Saturday (5/3/2022).
Prof. Jamal explained that six place of worships in UNS aims to represents the diversity of Indonesians and to build unity in UNS.
“Campus is a miniature of Indonesia with diverse members from various social, cultural, religiousity, and ethnicity background. Therefore, campus is expected to represent this diversity to strengthen the nationalism commitment from religious point of view,” Prof. Jamal stated.
“The six places of worship are located in close proximity to create harmony in diversity. This builds respects towards other’s belief, to be tolerant, and work together in maintaining religious harmony, especially in UNS,” Prof. Jamal stated.
The construction of six places of worship, according to Prof. Jamal explanation, has been a part of initial plan in UNS development. Prof. Jamal appreciated the bright idea from UNS founding fathers who dreamed to build a synergy between education and religion and brings UNS as the initiator for university to build their places of worship in one area.
Concluding his speech, Prof. Jamal reminded that Indonesia is rich with ethnicities, races, religions, and culture. Therefore, the diversity is a uniqueness that need to maintained together. Humas UNS
