UNS — A team of Community Service HGR of Industrial and Techno-Economic Engineering (Rekayasa Industri dan Tekno-Eknonomi – RITE), LPPM UNS has conducted dissemination on SNI and the Opportunity of Ecotourism Development to Village Officers and Farmers Group of Wonorejo Village, Jatiyoso, Karanganyar. On the occasion, two types of SNI were introduced, SNI for Organic Agricultural System (SNI 6729: 2016) and SNI for Coffee Products (SNI 01-2907-2008).
The Community Service Team consists of Dr. Muh. Hisjam, Roni Zakaria, ST., MT. and assisted by two students. Dr. Muh. Hisjam stated that the dissemination aims to increase farmers awareness to adopt both SNI to increase the added values in their coffee products. The event runs smoothly and implement the prevailing health protocol and was held in the house of local farmer group chief on Friday (6/11/2020). “This event was attended by the Village Chief of Wonorejo Village, Sularno, and other farmer group members,” Dr. Muh. Hisjam explained in a release received by uns.ac.id, Tuesday (17/11/2020).
By adopting the two SNIs, the fields and facilities managed by the farmer group in Wonorejo village can be used as a place for comparative study. The result can also be used as an example for other farmers who want to implement both standards or for people who are interested in the organic coffee farming system. With the beautiful panorama and cool mountainous air, in addition to the organic coffee farming system developed in the village, Wonorejo village has the opportunity to develop an ecotourism business. The opportunity to develop ecotourism is quite large with the opening of other ecotourism such as Rumah Pohon and Banyu Adem and a swimming pool and outbound facilities not far from Wonorejo Village.
The farmer group and village government gave a warm welcome and showed enthusiasm for the materials from LPPM UNS Community Service Team. The village chief supports and promises the use of village-owned lands for the development of the organic coffee farming system. The farmer group chief also showed support through utilizing their farming areas and provide farmers if needed. Through the implementation of organic farming system, they hope that their coffee will have a higher selling price and are more competitive in the market. “The ecotourism development is expected to grow supporting businesses that support the development in the village and improve villager’s welfare,” Dr. Muh. Hisjam concluded. Humas UNS
