UNS – Another achievement is proudly attained by the students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (MIPA) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, during the National Chemistry Expo and Festival, which organized by Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) on January 26th, 2020.
In this competition, the students were competing in a team, which consist of Muhammad Adam Firdausi from Diploma in Pharmacy Study Program class of 2018, Thufeil Noor Muhammad from Diploma in Informatics Engineering Study Program class of 2018, and Putri Indah Nurani from Diploma in Pharmacy Study Program class of 2019. This team prepares an ointment product named Salugen under the supervision of Dian Eka Ermawati, M. Sc., Apt.
Their research entitled Salugen: Innovation for Wound Healer Ointment from Milkfish (Chanos Chanos F) Bone Collagen Waste. Salugen is made from the milkfish bone waste that has gone through several scientific processes and was tested many times. Certainly, during the development of the product, there were many obstacles and challenges they should face. Putri, through a WhatsApp, recounts their experience to uns.ac.id team.
“Because there were many ideas we had in our mind but with many drawbacks, we had switched the formulations. At first, we planned to produce Nugget made from Tempe and Gembili (Dioscorea esculenta) to support food security that becomes the objective of SDG’s and was changed to the innovation of wound ointment from milkfish bone collagen waste. Consultation after consultation was carried out and finally, our abstract passed the selection. Because of this, we can only start the process to produce the ointment on the D-1 before the departure day and there were many obstacles we face. However, our leader Adam, motivates us, saying that the ointment has met our objective. The x-banner was also printed on the D-1 day from the departure day. On the departure day, the obstacles remained started from the banner printing problems, ointment box, and sticker. During our trip to the championship site we were soaked in the rain and had stopped for shelter twice,” said Putri on Wednesday (6/2/2020).
However, their struggle bears sweet fruit. They succeeded in bringing the name of UNS to the 1st place. Humas UNS/Zalfaa
