UNS— The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is sending six International Class students to participate in a short course at Osaka University in Japan from June 10 to 20, 2024.
The selected students are Alya Faiza, Andika Satria Ramadhan, Rachmadilla Putri Heryanto, and Salsabila Azka Maharani Sasongko from the Undergraduate Development Economics Study Program, along with M. Hisyam Asadul and Sandi Bima from the Undergraduate Accounting Study Program.
A send-off ceremony for the six students was held at UNS Inn on Monday, June 3, 2024. The event was attended by UNS Vice-Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D.; Heads of Departments at FEB, and the Head of the IE Department of Economics at Universitas Diponegoro, Dr. Jaka Aminata, S.E., M.A.
In his opening remarks, Bhimo Rizky Samudro, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Undergraduate Development Economics Study Program at FEB UNS, welcomed all guests to the special ceremony celebrating the departure of FEB UNS International Class students for the short course at Osaka University.
This short course not only provides an invaluable opportunity for FEB students to study abroad but also builds international connections with a global culture.
“This is a golden opportunity for students in the International Class programs of Development Economics and Accounting to build connections and learn about the unique culture at Osaka University in Japan,” Bhimo explained.
He expressed gratitude to Osaka University for extending its collaboration with FEB UNS and thanked Dr. Jaka Aminata for his assistance in facilitating the short course.
He hoped that the six students would enjoy their time during the program and their journey, both academically and non-academically. “We believe this program will be beneficial for both the students and the university in the future,” Bhimo added.
Dr. Jaka Aminata, S.E., M.A., Head of the IE Department of Economics at Universitas Diponegoro, emphasized the importance of students taking the short course seriously. “You must be serious because any lack of seriousness will be troublesome for both the students and the university. We all represent UNS, so we must uphold its good name,” Dr. Jaka said.

The students from FEB UNS will join their peers at Osaka University and are required to take three courses: Research Methodology, Project Evaluation, and Sustainable Development Goals. “You will take three courses and three exams, possibly take-home exams, with the courses delivered over two full days, followed by exams. Don’t panic, don’t be afraid, enjoy. Be professional students,” he encouraged.
In his remarks, UNS Vice-Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., noted that the short course would provide international learning experience for International Class students. He highlighted UNS’s future plans to promote not only short courses but also semester-long credit transfers to partner universities abroad.
“Have a safe trip. You will study across countries and interact with friends from Japan. Utilize this 10-day period for a cross-cultural experience and to learn about foreign cultures. You will also have the opportunity to discuss how universities manage their graduates and bring those insights back to your program. My advice is to stay motivated, learn and experience as much as you can, make friends, and uphold UNS’s good name,” Prof. Irwan concluded.
He also congratulated the Undergraduate Accounting and Development Economics Study Programs at FEB UNS for providing their students with the opportunity to gain international learning experiences.
