UNS — SS-07 AKUSARA Team from the Diploma Program (D-3) Civil Engineering Vocational School (SV) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won the 1st prize in the National Competition “Smart Innovation Method for Construction 2021”. This competition is a part of Civil Engineering Days (CED) held by the Civil Engineering Program Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY).
Under the supervision from Widi Hartono, ST., MT, the team has Dheaulhaq Rosadi (2019), Rafita Azzahra (2020), and Ramadhan Widy Pratama (2020) as members. All of them need to complete all of the stages to be announced as the winner. The first selection is the internal selection in Semar Solid (SS) community D3 Civil Engineering UNS. After they got selected, they went through an independent preparation before reviewing and working on the questions regarding constructing a building provided by the committee for a month. The following stage is the submission of an offer on 29 May 2021.
“On 12 June 2021, we presented our presentation. On 18 June 2021, we were announced as the 1st winner at Smart Innovation Method For Construction CED UAJY 2021 Competition,” Rafita, the Team Leader, said on Thursday (1/7/2021).
Rafita and the team used six innovative methods for building construction in this competition which some of the methods focus on environmental preservation. The first method is Lean Construction, a method to design a production system to minimize waste from building materials, time, and efforts to achieve the maximum output. Second, Stick on Wall (SoW). Third, Hollow Core Slab (HCS) is a hollow concrete slab as a breakthrough for high-rise buildings using the pre-tensioning system. Fourth, Aluminum Formwork (Alform) for reusable formwork that reduces the use of wood. Thus, it reduces environmental damage from the use of lumber. Fifth, the Building Information Modelling (BIM) application shows the design, visualizing, simulating, analyzing, and documenting the project more efficiently and accurately. BIM also assists in computing volume, accelerate the production process, and real-time coordination between contractor and owner or consultant. The sixth method is a sheet pile to hold soil and water from entering the basement excavation site.
“Basically, these innovation concepts are methods used in the construction process to minimize waste and maximize project value,” Rafita explained as the answer for a reason for selecting the methods.
Semar Solid D-3 Civil Engineering UNS also send another team SS-07 BADRAYANA that won the 3rd position. They hope that their innovation can be applied in the construction field to achieve smart and integrated construction in the future. “For example, the Lean Construction to reduce project wastes,” Rafita concluded.
