UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students continue to achieve an accomplishment during the Covid-19 pandemic. Recently, Timor Fathahila from the Diploma Program (D3) of Civil Engineering Vocational School (SV) UNS won 3rd place in Putra Solo 2021 as a representative from Laweyan Subdistrict. Timor Fathahila won the title after competing with ten finalists in the Grand Final of Putra Putri Solo 2021 held in the Open Stage Taman Balekambang, Saturday (13/11/2021).

In the competition, he goes side by side with Yosephin Yayi Utari, an alumnus of Faculty of Law (FH) UNS. To the uns.ac.id team, the Favorite Champion in UNS Campus Ambassador 2019 selection shared his experience in Putra Putri Solo 2021 that started with an application through Instagram information on 8 October 2021, followed by several stages. “The first stage is administrative selection, second written examination, and public speaking, interviews and talents assessment, then to the final and briefing in 8-9 days of quarantine, then grand final,” Timor explained on Monday (15/11/2021).

The result of administrative selection was 140 participants who competed to pass into the semifinal round. This stage includes assessment on general knowledge about Solo, interest and talents assessment, and Indonesian and English tests. Timor also learned in-depth about tourism and culture in Solo and Javanese languages. “After I passed, I participated in the briefing on Solo Culture and how to be an ambassador,” he added.

Although the selection stages were in a tight schedule, the UNS student successfully passed all the stages thanks to the support from his parents. “The preparation was intense every day. What we need tomorrow needs to be prepared and coordinated with people at home. I need to contact them quickly. Thankfully, my parents were supportive,” he stated.

Timor also explained that his knowledge from UNS Campus Ambassador greatly helped him in the competition because its only difference was the scope of the knowledge. As Campus Ambassador he represents his university, while in the recent competition, he represents the city. Timor also stated that he is ready to promote Solo tourism and culture and hopes that the young generation could educate people about Solo tourism and culture to improve the city at the national and international level.

“As an ambassador, we need to be involved as Solo cultural and tourism promotor, both for the known ones and ones with potential to be developed as a tourism destination,” he concluded. Humas UNS
