UNS – Another proud achievement has been accomplished by a student from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta on the international stage. This time, the achievement was presented by Yovan Rate Aziz, a student from the Special Education Study Program (PLB) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS. Yovan successfully brought home the 37th Gold Medal for Indonesia in the blind judo sport category at the ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Cambodia.

Upon this achievement, Yovan expressed his pride and gratitude for his accomplishment. “I feel immensely proud and grateful for this achievement,” Yovan said in a release received by uns.ac.id on Friday, (7/7/2023).

Furthermore, Yovan also shared his motivation for pursuing judo and being able to participate in and win competitions at both the national and international levels.

“My motivation for participating in judo as a martial art is firstly because I have a passion for martial arts. Secondly, I want to achieve success in the field of sports. Thirdly, I want to make my parents proud. Despite having sensory limitations, I want to show the world that I am capable and can be the best for Indonesia. Lastly, I want to excel because I aim to obtain scholarships for my education,” Yovan continued.

Moreover, Yovan advised others to continue to explore their potential. He emphasized the importance of not feeling ashamed and to keep striving to hone  those potentials.

“If you want to achieve success or the best results on your journey, you must be diligent, perseverant, and optimistic. You must also have ambition in the field you are pursuing. Keep sharpening any potential you possess. Don’t be shy and keep striving,” Yovan said.

Lastly, Yovan added that having limitations should not be seen as a hindrance to continuously developing one’s potential.

“Failures are the stepping stones to victory. Don’t focus on someone’s limitations or strengths. Basically, all human beings are the same, what sets them apart is whether they are capable of pursuing and dedicating themselves to what lies within them,” Yovan concluded. Humas UNS
