The seminar welcomed notable figures, including the Indonesian Minister of Trade, Dr. Budi Santoso, M.Si. The seminar carried the theme “Together with the Minister of Trade: Towards Export-Oriented Students.” It aimed to enhance students’ understanding of MSME potential in the international market. It also sought to motivate them to actively participate in the global business ecosystem.

Prof. Hartono expressed his gratitude for the presence of Dr. Budi, an esteemed alumnus of FISIP UNS. He emphasized the importance of this collaboration in encouraging students to embrace global trade opportunities.

“An essential goal of this seminar is to help students comprehend the potential of MSMEs in the global market. As the backbone of Indonesia’s economy, MSMEs face challenges such as product quality, market access, and export strategies,” Prof. Hartono stated.

Collaborative Efforts and Key Activities

Dr. Didik emphasized that this initiative was part of a broader collaboration. It involved FISIP UNS and the Directorate General of National Export Development. The partnership focuses on three core activities:

1. National Seminar and Bootcamp
2. Sustainable Business Model Competition
3. MSME Export Mentoring Program

“This seminar serves as the kickoff event for the MSME export program. It aims to inspire students to create sustainable business ideas and gain insights into international market expansion strategies,” Dr. Didik explained.

Insights from the Ministry of Trade

Dr. Budi announced upcoming entrepreneurship training programs to assist MSMEs in penetrating global markets. He expressed hope that UNS would produce future entrepreneurs ready to excel in the export industry.

Fajarini Puntodewi emphasized the significance of exports for Indonesia’s economic growth, job creation, and global positioning. She outlined strategies for achieving an 8% economic growth rate by 2029. These strategies included product development, fostering export entrepreneurs, and expanding market reach.

“Students can contribute to boosting Indonesian exports by promoting MSMEs on social media and joining export training programs. They can also start export-oriented businesses and innovate in product marketing strategies,” Fajarini explained.

Business Insights from the Experts

Rosyid Nukha focused on the concept of Sustainability Business, which creates long-term value by considering economic, social, and environmental factors. The benefits include:

“Sustainability Business revolves around three pillars: environment, social, and governance. This includes eco-friendly materials, energy-saving practices, worker welfare, and business ethics,” Rosyid elaborated.

Lukman Fahmi discussed the importance of a well-structured business proposal. He explained that a business proposal outlines strategies to achieve business goals efficiently. It also serves as a tool for evaluation and monitoring. With the valuable insights shared during this event, FISIP UNS aims to produce future entrepreneurs. These future entrepreneurs will actively compete in the global export market.

Strengthening Indonesia-China Academic and Cultural Ties

During the event, Fan Jie, Director of the Confucius Institute at UNS, expressed appreciation for the China Center’s establishment. Representing China, she emphasized that this initiative strengthens the longstanding friendship between Indonesia and China. She hopes the center will enhance cultural and academic exchanges. In particular, she aims to strengthen language and educational development for students, lecturers, and staff.

“The UNS China Center is a testament to the strong friendship between China and Indonesia. As the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations approaches in 2025, we believe this center will continue to grow. It will also contribute significantly to fostering cooperation in various fields,” Fan Jie stated.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., Head of the UNS Mandarin Language Center, emphasized the reason behind the establishment of the China Center. The rapid growth of activities at the UNS Confucius Institute prompted its creation. The Chinese Embassy has recognized it as the most active Mandarin Language Center in Indonesia. It aims to accelerate academic and industrial collaboration between UNS and China.

“The Rector and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (MWA) have given their approval. With this support, we are committed to strengthening UNS’s ties with universities in China. We also aim to enhance collaboration with industries in the country. Our main objective is to facilitate student and faculty exchanges while enhancing cooperation with industries in both countries. The China Center will serve as a key bridge for these partnerships,” he explained.

A Strategic Initiative for Global Engagement

Prof. Muliaman Darmansyah Hadad, Ph.D., Chairman of the UNS Board of Trustees (MWA), emphasized the significance of the China Center. He stated that it represents a strategic step in expanding UNS’s international collaborations. According to him, this initiative encompasses three key aspects. They are Business-to-Business (B2B), Government-to-Government (G2G), and People-to-People (P2P), all of which support the university’s global engagement.

Meanwhile, UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, reaffirmed the importance of the China Center. He stated that it will strengthen the university’s collaboration with various Chinese institutions, particularly in education, research, and research commercialization.

“We warmly welcome the establishment of the China Center. This initiative will serve as a bridge for research and education while supporting collaborations in other fields,” he said.

Key UNS officials attended the inauguration ceremony. The attendees included Vice Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Ir. Dody Ariawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.Vice Rector for Planning, International Cooperation, and Information, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. also present. A Mother’s Words That Shaped a Future Leader

During his speech, Dr. Andi Amran Sulaiman expressed deep gratitude and recalled his humble beginnings.

“I was born into poverty and raised in hardship,” he shared emotionally at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium, UNS, on Tuesday (11/3/2025). “But my mother always said, ‘Son, you will become a great person. You will change our fate.’ Her words still echo in my heart.”

Growing up in a rural village, he was one of 12 siblings. His father, a low-ranking soldier, struggled to provide for the family. To survive, they often searched for food in the forest.

“Many of you were born on spring beds, but I was born under a tree. I remember coming home from school, exhausted and hungry, only to find no food available. So, we scavenged for guavas and sweet potatoes in the forest,” he recalled.

The Core Values of Honesty and Hard Work

Despite financial struggles, his parents instilled in him strong values of integrity and perseverance.

“My parents always taught me to be honest and work hard. ‘Never take what isn’t yours,’ my mother would say. I hold on to that lesson to this day,” he stated.

His mother’s unwavering faith in his future was another guiding force. She always told him he would become a minister, even when it seemed impossible. Years later, her words became reality.

“I still remember her saying, ‘Son, you will be a minister one day.’ Deep down, I doubted it, but I never contradicted her. Then, one day, President Jokowi heard about a hardworking young man. That’s how I became part of the 2014 Cabinet,” he revealed.

The Power of a Mother’s Blessing

During his speech, Dr. Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized the importance of cherishing and respecting parents, especially mothers.

“If you want to see God smile, make your mother smile. A mother plays a crucial role in shaping our journey. If you have ever hurt your mother, don’t expect success. I wouldn’t be here today without her,” he asserted.

A Prestigious Recognition for Agricultural Contributions

The Parasamya Anugraha Dharma Krida Upa Bogha award is a recognition of his remarkable contributions to Indonesia’s agricultural sector. However, he sees it as more than just an achievement—it is a responsibility.

“I keep thinking about how I will be held accountable for this, both in this world and in the afterlife. This award is not just for me, but for the people of Indonesia,” he concluded.

Based on UNS Rector’s Decree Number 851/UN27/HK.02/2025, UNS granted the award to Dr. Andi Amran Sulaiman. The honor recognized his leadership, integrity, and achievements in improving Indonesia’s agricultural production index. “We selected him for this award because he is a role model. His contributions to the agricultural sector have significantly improved Indonesia’s production index,” the UNS Rector stated.

Religious leaders and key community figures were also present.

Additionally, Prof. Muliaman Darmansyah Hadad, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of UNS, participated along with other MWA members. Prof. Dr. Sri Sulistyowati, dr., Sp.OG(K)., Chairman of the Academic Senate, and Prof. Drs. Suranto, M.Sc., Ph.D., Chairman of the Board of Professors, also attended. The event also gathered university leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, students, alumni, and UNS partners.

UNS Strategic Plan 2024-2029

During the session, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., presented the 2024-2025 Annual Report, highlighting UNS’s Strategic Plan for 2024-2029. As a State University with a Legal Entity (PTNBH), UNS aims to strengthen its academic and research framework. It follows the DREAMTEAM concept, which stands for Digital, Research, Education, Autonomous, Modern, Together, Equilibrium, Active, and Manpower.

This strategy guides the Tridharma (Three Pillars of Higher Education). It also aligns with UNS’s commitment to national development.

Commitment to Excellence and Innovation

“UNS upholds the theme ‘Transforming UNS Governance Towards Excellence, Inclusivity, and Impact in Education and Research for National Independence’,” Prof. Hartono stated. He emphasized UNS’s contributions through high-quality research and its application in addressing national challenges.

Prof. Hartono also noted that rapid advancements in technology and the global landscape require UNS to continuously adapt. He encouraged the academic community to drive innovation and create solutions with real-world impact.

As part of the celebration, UNS presented the Parasamya Anugraha Dharma Krida Upa Bogha, also known as the UNS Award. The university honored Dr. Ir. Andi Amran Sulaiman, M.P., for his contributions to national agricultural development. His leadership significantly improved Indonesia’s agricultural production index.

Additionally, 16 alumni received the UNS Outstanding Alumni Award for their significant contributions to society. Among them were Dr. Budi Santoso, Minister of Trade, and Agus Jabo Priyono, Vice Minister of Social Affairs.

“The role of alumni is vital in strengthening UNS’s network. We hope this recognition will inspire more alumni to contribute,” Prof. Hartono added.

To mark its 49th Dies Natalis, UNS also reinforced its collaborations with strategic partners. UNS signed several agreements with various institutions. The partners included The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag), PT Bank Jateng, PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk, and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). These collaborations aim to enhance research, improve education quality, and develop competitive human resources.

The Open Session of the Academic Senate served as a moment of reflection on UNS’s achievements and aspirations. Moving forward, UNS remains committed to being an excellent, inclusive, and impactful institution that significantly contributes to Indonesia’s national development.

Highlighting UNS’s Commitment to Education and Research Excellence

According to Prof. Dr. Mohammad Jamin, S.H., M.Hum., the Secretary of the UNS Academic Senate, this event underscores the university’s ongoing commitment. It highlights the university’s dedication to improving education and research quality. “These new professors will contribute significantly to advancing science and act as role models in furthering education quality at UNS,” Prof. Jamin said during a press conference held on Friday (7/2/2025) at Meeting Room 2, Dr. Prakosa Building, UNS.

The newly inaugurated professors represent a wide range of disciplines, from social sciences and humanities to science and technology. They have demonstrated outstanding dedication to teaching, research, and community service.

Among the 29 new professors, the Faculty of Engineering (FT) boasts the highest number, with nine professors. Other faculties include the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) with four professors. The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) has three professors. The Faculty of Agriculture (FP) and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) each have three professors as well. Additionally, the Faculty of Medicine (FK) has one professor. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) has one professor. The Faculty of Law (FH) and Faculty of Information Technology and Data Science (Fatisda) each have one professor as well.

With the addition of these professors, UNS aims to produce graduates capable of driving national development and addressing global challenges.
