The team won over their competitors and brought the 1st place prize home. Khanif, the team leader, explained that they proposed the Joglo Kahuripan agrotourism concept. Their proposal is an agrotourism concept based on agricultural education that offers a ‘back to nature’ concept for the visitors through its integrated agriculture.

“Melon, fish, and maggot cultivation as the representative of life. We combined (the concept) with the local wisdom of Central Java culture, which is threatened with extinction,” Khanif explained to the uns.ac.id team on Friday (4/2/2021).

Khanif and the team consider the presence of agrotourism in the community is greatly needed to provide comprehension on the importance of the agricultural sector in the community while maintaining the high community interests toward the tourism sector. In Joglo Kahuripan, the offered agrotourism concept that introduces the plant cultivation process from the seedlings to harvesting.

Regarding the name of Joglo Kahuripan, Khanif explained that the name was selected because it could represent the agrotourism concept that the proposed. Joglo is the name of Central Java traditional house, while “kahuripan” means life. Thus, together the name means the center of life. Khanif stated in the interview that the team was delighted with their achievement.

“(We are) delighted because I have not participated in a competition for a long time. I could also collaborate with the fellows from engineering faculty,” Khanif explained.

To achieve their win, the group was challenged to combine the ideas from students from different disciplines and visualize their final idea. At the end of the interview, Khanif shared the importance of collaboration. “We do not need to be a specialist to be beneficial in a certain field. We could collaborate to create benefits. Collaboration is what we need,” Khanif stated. Humas UNS

Segorogunung Village has potential in tourism and agricultural sectors, with tourism sectors well known among visitors. Tourism development requires supporting sectors such as culinary and souvenirs. Segorogunung Village potential that could be developed such as chayote. However, low creativity and innovation lead to a low-profit margin for the local community. Therefore, as an implementation of Higher Education Tri Dharma through community service and assisting local people in developing their local potential, the Diploma Program (D-3) of Agribusiness Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta in Student Association in Diploma Program of Agribusiness (Gamagrita) conducted empowerment program that focuses on local community business skills upgrade.

The program was implemented under the Rural Community Empowerment Program (P2MD) funded by the Directorate General of Vocational and Professional Higher Education Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) and the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program (MBKM) by directly assisting community members and develop students’ skills. In the implementation, the Team collaborated with the rural government, village-owned business (BUMDes) Mustika Lawu, and Women Farmers Group (KWT) Mawar. In five months, the Team has conducted diverse activities, such as “Scale-Up Local Rural Production Supporting Segorogunung Tourism Destination” training, chayote processing into chayote chips, risoles, brownies, and wingko, assistance in development progress and solution for issues that arise, and branding through packaging under “Sechi” brand.

The Team also established the Agrilawu Center as a center for incubation and sales of Segorogunung excellent products and tourism destination that provides photo spots with a “millennial colorful” theme. The center was officially opened and introduced on Thursday (11/11/2021), located south of the Segorogunung football field. The opening ceremony was attended by Ngargoyoso Subdistrict Chief Wahyu Agus Pramono, S.S.T.P., who appreciated the efforts made by the Team. “Thank you to Universitas Sebelas Maret academic members for helping in the development of Segorogunung Village. Hopefully, this event does not stop here, but could continue and develop,” he stated.

The ceremony was also attended by the representative from the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office of Karanganyar District, Sarno S.Kar., as the Head of Tourism Marketing Development, who also welcomed the program and considered it to be in line with Karanganyar tourism vision in 2030. “We support this program as a small step in achieving Karanganyar tourism vision in 2030,” he stated.

Another appreciation was shared by the Dean of Vocational School UNS, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc., Ak., showed his gratefulness for the success in P2MD program implementation. He also mentioned that collaboration among other programs is necessary for community development efforts. “So that, the output could be diverse and reach various elements of the rural community,” he added.

The Team also received thanks from Segorogunung Village Chief, Tri Harjono, S.Sos., for selecting his village as a community service location. “Thank you to P2MD Gamagrita Team led by Mbak Hilda and supervisor for helping this village development to be more advanced and independent in the future,” he said in his opening remark.

Hilda Sekar Wulandari, as Team Leader, also thanked all parties who helped her Team in implementing their programs. She also mentioned that she learned many things during the process. According to Rysca Indreswari, S.Pt., M.Si., as a team supervisor, the program is an appropriate means of knowledge transfer and implementation of what students learn because, as an agent of change, students need to observe and solve issues in the community.

In the opening ceremony, SV UNS also signed an agreement of collaboration with Segorogunung Village as assisted village and community service site for students. The event was also livened up by Afifah Nuha Prasiswi who sang modern Javanese songs. Humas UNS

The training took 5 (five) days to complete, from Monday (30/8/2021) to Friday (3/9/2021). The Dean of SV UNS, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc., Ak., symbolically opened the training at Building C, Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS. During the event, participants and speakers must apply strict health protocols.

“Hopefully, this activity will become a regular agenda for the Study Program. Not only in the Diploma of Agribusiness Study Program but other Study Programs alike. Together we can improve our graduates’ profile,” said Drs. Santoso.

The training is designed to improve the quality of human resources in the Study Program. This event is expected to improve the quality and competence of the Diploma of Agribusiness graduates. Thus they will be ready to compete in the employment world, especially in the field of agribusiness management.

Raden Kunto Adi, S.P., M.P., as the Head of the Diploma in Agribusiness Study Program and the person in charge of this activity, expressed his gratitude to the Director-General of Vocational Education Kemdikbudristek and all parties who supported and facilitated this activity.
“We thank you for holding this training and certification. Hopefully, after this training, our human resources will be even better,” he said.

Training and competency certification are part of the Vocational and Professional Competency Training Assistance Program in 2021 organized by the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek). The training was attended by 7 (seven) lecturers of the Diploma in Agribusiness Study Program, among other are Raden Kunto Adi, S.P., M.P., Edi Paryanto, SP, M.Agr., Hardian Ningsih, SP, MP, Rysca Indreswari S.Pt., M.Sc., Rizki Puspita Dewanti, SE, M.Sc., Dr. Muji Rahayu, SP, MP, and Dr. Ir. Endang Setia Muliawati, M.Sc.

The competency certification test is carried out after the training is finished, Saturday-Sunday (4-5/9/2021). The lecturers participating in the certification test share their positive responses. One of them, Edi Paryanto, SP, M.Agr., felt very enthusiastic and quite happy with the overall event. Even though the training was organized in an on-site (offline) manner from morning to evening, Edi Paryanto always attending and participating in the whole series of activities with high enthusiasm.

“I am very enthusiastic and happy to participate in this training and competency certification because I can gain new knowledge, which I can share with students, especially the Diploma in Agribusiness students. Hopefully, there will be more training and competency certification for Lecturers in the future,” said Edi Paryanto on the sidelines of exam preparation.

In his opening speech, the Head of Diploma in Agribusiness Study Program, Raden Kunto Adi, M.P., explains that the objective of this program is to shape new entrepreneurs in the agribusiness sector. “Hopefully, this program can improve the number of entrepreneurs from the Diploma in Agribusiness Study Program for 30% of the total graduates in line with the Main Performance Indicator 1,” he wishes.

The Dan of UNS Vocational School, Drs. Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc., Ak., who was also attending the opening event, hopes that the program can be implemented sustainably. “We hope that the start-up initiatives in the agriculture sector can go sustainably. Of course, this cannot be separated from the participation and collaboration from the industry partners of this study program,” said Santoso Tri Hananto, M.Acc. Ak.

The training invites Untung Wijanarko (owner of Tani Organik Merapi) and Andhika Mahardika (CEO of Agradaya) for the first day meeting. Untung Wijanarko shares his experiences in starting organic agribusiness. Currently, the product of Tani Organik Merapi has been distributed to numerous supermarkets. Meanwhile, Andhika Mahardika, as the CEO of Agradaya, recounts his story in empowering herbal medicine farmers. On the first day of training, participants show high enthusiasm and are not hesitating to interact with the instructors. The training will continue for 5 (five) days, covering various other materials, starting from the introduction to entrepreneurship for the agriculture start-up business, preparation of a business plan, marketing strategy and branding, funding, financial report preparation, and business legality.

The invited instructors are experts and partners of the Diploma in Agribusiness Study Program. Rysca Indreswari, M.Si., who serves as the PIC of the Agrisucha event, states that after the training, each team will establish a business assisted by external experts. “External mentor who will assist the process directly are Aries Adenata, M.Hum. (Founder of Brand Insight), Andhika Mahardika (CEO of Agradaya–Yogyakarta), and Suhariyanto Putra (People Development Manager at TaniHub–Jakarta). As for the internal mentors, there will be business experts from UNS such as Dr. Heru Irianto, Dr. Erlina Wida Riptanti, and Raden Kunto Adi, M.P.,” explains Rysca.

There will be a product exhibition at the end of the program, inviting the partner institutions to evaluate, delivering suggestions, and proposing a collaboration or funding for the developed products. Iqbal, one of the participants in Agrisucha, states that when he first knew about the program, he was highly interested in joining the program. He did not waste much time considering joining after listening to the program explanation. “I am grateful for this opportunity to improve my capacities in entrepreneurship, and we did not only learn about how to produce goods and sell them. After the initial selection, we were divided into several teams to collaborate and proposing a start-up idea under the guidance and assistance from the professional mentors,” Iqbal said.

Based on the tracer study report for the Study Program in 2020, the number of graduates initiating entrepreneur activity remains low at 16.67%. Therefore, a suitable strategy is needed to achieve the Main Performance Indicator 1 (graduates obtain a decent job). Therefore, training and assistance are crucial to cut employment waiting time and improving the number of entrepreneurship in the agriculture sector.
