Three professors and alumni of FH UNS were invited to the event, Prof. Zudan Arif Fakrulloh, S.H., M.H., IKA FH UNS Chairman and Director General (Dirjen) of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil); Prof. Dr. Triyanto, S.H., M.Hum., Head of Master Program in Pancasila and Civics Education (PPKn) UNS; and Prof. Dr. I Gusti Ayu Ketut Rachmi Handayani, S.H., M.M., Dean of FH UNS.

Prof. Zudan opened the discussion by discussing the population concern of the new capital city. He stated that the IKN would serve as the center for governmental activities, not business activities, which differentiate Jakarta and Nusantara. The city will be classified into three regions, Central Governmental Core Area (KIPP) with 6,671 hectares of land, IKN Region (K-IKN) with 56,180 hectares, and Developmental Region IKN (KP-IKN) with 199,962 hectares. To support its operation, many of the public service apparatus (ASN) will also move to the IKN. Prof. Zudan stated that around 300 thousand ASN would gradually move from Jakarta to Nusantara.

“The move will be gradual. For example, if there are two thousand people in a ministry, then 200 people will move first. Thus, the move could take 15 up to 20 years to complete. During the period, there will be two ministerial offices in Jakarta and Nusantara,” Prof. Zudan stated.

Prof. Ayu, the Dean of FH UNS, shared material on environmental policies in IKN. Prof. Ayu hopes that the construction process in IKN could pay attention to the environmental aspect of the area to preserve the natural environment of Kalimantan. “Development always has a negative and positive impact on the environment. So, how do we reduce the negative impact and push for the positive impacts. Besides that, in the legal perspective, the legal administrative instrument must be prepared well,” she added.

Prof. Triyanto, FH UNS alumnus and Head of Master Program in Pancasila and Civics Education UNS, discusses the sociological aspect of the new capital city. He stated that the government needs to pay attention to the local people in the new capital city to prevent the marginalization of local people. The government should also pay attention to the livelihood of people moving to the new city, including the government employees. Their residence, social environment, and education must be prepared for these people. “These (issues) need to be anticipated to ensure that migrants and local people receive optimum benefits from the new city,” he added.

The discussion was led by Ahmad Rafiq, an FH UNS alumnus who works as a journalist. The discussion was exciting, with around one hundred participants participating in the discussion. Humas UNS

The sexual violence issue received a significant highlight recently. The National Commission (Komnas) for Women data recorded that in 2021 there was a decrease of sexual violence in Indonesia, but still considerably high, occurring both in the community and in the campus environment. Wedangan IKA UNS Seri 89 was concerned with the report and invited five speakers to discuss the issue: Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti N, M.Si., Dr. Eva Agustinawati, S.Sos., M.Si., Dr. Agus Riewanto, S.H., C.L.A., Ravika Nur Kusumawati, S.Psi., M.A., and Siti Dariyatini, S.Sos., M.M., who come from UNS academic member and Surakarta City Board.

The discussion was opened with a remark from Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, who shared that UNS has established a team to prevent sexual violence on the campus. The team consists of students and several faculty members in UNS under the coordination of the Vice-Rector for Management and Human Resources Affairs. “Hopefully, this team could follow up any sexual violence that occurs on the campus and make UNS a campus that frees from sexual violence,” Prof. Yunus stated. Prof. Yunus also mentioned that UNS also has a prevention and evaluation team and has declared its campus as an anti-violence campus.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) has also issued Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Decree (Permendikbudristek) No. 30 of 2021 regarding the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education as a follow up for the rampant sexual cases that occurred at the university. Prof. Ismi, the expert of gender UNS and the Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNS, stated that Permendikbudristek No. 30 of 2021 could provide a legal basis for punishing sexual violence that occurs on the campus and building awareness on sexual violence.

“It provides legal basis because not everyone has the ability to support the victim, and oftentimes, sexual violence is considered to be something usual to be experienced by women,” Prof. Ismi stated.

The Chief of Population and Gender Research Study Center (PPKG) Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) UNS, Dr. Eva Agustinawati, S.Sos., M.Si, emphasized that eliminating sexual violence cannot be done by one party. Collaboration among various parties is needed to solve sexual violence cases. Legal assistance, education on prevention is all needed, and UNS has provided socialization on sexual violence and gender and power relations. “Because sexual violence is based on gender and power relations, we need to build a system that could run the campus,” Dr. Eva added. She also added that in the future, PPKG wants to collaborate with UNS Hospital and Technical Unit for Women and Children Integrated Services Unit (UPT PTPA) Surakarta in assisting sexual violence victims.

“Most importantly are students. Students are the vanguard in preventing and handling these cases. We want to create a safe and comfortable campus,” Dr. Eva concluded.

Currently, PPKG LPPM UNS has initiated collaboration with Dr. Agus Riewanto, S.H., C.L.A., as the Director of Institute for Legal Consulting and Assistance (LKBH) Faculty of Law (FH) UNS and Ravika Nur Kusumawati, S.Psi., M.A., as a psychologist. Humas UNS

The Team consists of ten members: three volunteers from Badan Koordinasi Pelaksana (Bakorlak) SAR UNS, five volunteers from the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) UNS, and two volunteers from the Alumni Association (IKA) UNS. The sendoff ceremony was held symbolically by the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs UNS Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, in the lobby of dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building.

On this occasion, he stated that the Team would conduct a ten-day operation and would come back to Solo to be replaced by a different Team. To support the evacuation process at the eruption-impacted areas, the Team was equipped with two cars, one ambulance, 3,000 face masks, three jerrycans of disinfectant, seven oxygen cylinders, and medicines.

“The disaster-affected areas are locations that are not conducive. I really hope and truly ask you, please keep your Team member, stay healthy, stay together, and stay safe,” Prof. Kuncoro stated.

To the volunteers, the Vice-Rector mentioned that their departure to the eruption-affected areas had been supported by many people, including local IKA UNS. The Semeru Rescue Team will receive a home base facility in several houses and clinics to be set as their posts that support their mobility during the evacuation process.

“We have alumni there who will provide house and clinic as your home base. Use the posts as best as you can to support our operation, where our cars go today, where our Team goes today. These vehicles are vital,” Prof. Kuncoro stated.

On the same occasion, the Chief of Operation Division Bakorlak SAR UNS Agung Nugeroho reminded the volunteers to stay safe, especially considering that there are areas with no connectivity and the danger of volcanic mudflow continues to threaten certain areas.

“I hope all of you who will be in the field keep maintaining your movement, always report, for example, if any of you about to go somewhere, make sure there are people to oversee. Protect one another,” Agung Nugeroho added.

The Team will depart to Surabaya using the toll road in a three-hour journey, then departing to Leces Subdistrict, Probolinggo District before entering Lumajang District. Humas UNS

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, who also attended the ceremony, mentioned that IKA UNS needs a leader who is strong and dedicated, which he sees in Ir. Budi Harto. This message was delivered by Prof. Jamal in his opening remark that also mentioned that IKA UNS Chairman would lead more than 200 thousand UNS graduates all over Indonesia and worldwide. IKA UNS is also demanded to contribute to advancing the community and UNS students in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Because leading of more than 200,000 alumni is not easy, requires high commitment for UNS alumni association. The Central Management of IKS UNS led by Pak Budi has succeeded in performing their positive and active role for the development of UNS,” Prof. Jamal mentioned in his opening remark.

Further, Prof. Jamal admitted that he would be delighted if the next management of IKA UNS was also led by Ir. Budi Harto. Firmly, the Rector supports Central Management of IKA UNS 2021-2025 to contribute more for UNS and the community, especially that UNS now needs tremendous support to achieve its vision as World Class University (UNS). This vision could be achieved if all of its alumni in state institutions, government institutions, and private institutes support UNS.

“Therefore, the current managing board could be re-elected,” Prof. Jamal stated.

On a different occasion, Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS Prof. Sajidan hoped that Ir. Budi Harto could bring IKA UNS to be always solid and work together with UNS. Supporting Prof. Jamal, Prof. Sajidan also considers Ir. Budi Harto is a successful person who could be trusted in leading IKA UNS.

“Congratulation to Ir. Budi Harto as the Chairman of IKA UNS 2021-2025. Good luck and success,” Prof. Sajidan stated.

Supports from Young Alumni

In an interview after the ceremony, Ir. Budi Harto said that he is grateful to be re-elected to lead IKA UNS. He hoped that the young alumni could contribute to the Central Management of IKA UNS 2021-2025.

“Currently and in the future, the demand is for the young generation. Young alumni need to show off. Thus, we hope this management could be filled by young alumni to (achieve) better management, and in the future, they could come forward to be the new leaders,” Ir. Budi Harto stated.

Further, the graduate of Civil Engineering Program Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNS 1983 also stated that the presence of young alumni in the association could strengthen the synergy among the UNS alumni. Ir. Budi Harto also hoped that other UNS alumni could support the presence of young UNS alumni in the management board of IKA UNS 2021-2025 so that they could learn and receive new experiences.

“There will be a good collaboration; the seniors shared experiences with the young, that will benefit them in community services. Then with the alma mater, we could (build) better (relationship),” he concluded. Humas UNS

The offline and online event was attended by the Chairman of Central Management of IKA UNS Ir. Budi Harto, Secretary-General (Sekjen) of Central Management of IKA UNS Drs. Bambang Dwi Wahyudi, Vice-rectors, and Dean from each faculty in UNS.

In his opening remark, Prof. Jamal thanked the Central Management of IKA UNS for conducting a series of Munas V 2021 well. The Munas held on 4-5 December is an agenda that was rescheduled a few times before. The Munas V was firstly scheduled for December 2020 and June 2021, which need to be delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Special appreciation was also delivered from Prof. Jamal to Ir. Budi Harto as the Chairman of IKA UNS Central Management for six years.

“It is appropriate, I think, that as a Rector of UNS, I appreciated and provided the highest recognition to the Central and Regional Management of IKA UNS who have worked together and eased UNS efforts to achieve its grand vision to be a world-class university,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Although this year Munas was held amid the pandemic, Prof. Jamal believes that the spirits of the alumni to contribute to the campus and the community will never go down. Prof. Jamal shared this believes because for almost two years, the Covid-19 pandemic was occurring in Indonesia; IKA UNS has donated numerous aids, from masks, health equipment, staple foods, internet quota, scholarships, and dosages of Covid-19 vaccines for UNS academic members and surrounding community.

“Covid-19 pandemic is proof for a success we achieved together. And thank you to Pak Budi Harto for giving attention to his juniors in the campus by granting funds to provide internet quota assistance during March-April 2020,” Prof. Jamal added.

UNS Achievement

In Munas V IKA UNS 2021, Prof. Jamal shared UNS achievements in the last two years with UNS alumni attending the ceremony. The achievements shared by Prof. Jamal include UNS ranking at the national and international level and the autonomy as a public university. At the international level UNS, for the first time, ranked 1.201+ from 1,662 listed global universities and 6^th in Indonesia by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR). This ranking was announced on 1 September 2021 after THE conducted assessment on Indonesian universities.

Prof. Jamal also shared that UNS was included in cluster 1 of best universities in Indonesia by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) RI.

“More specially, UNS received the highest score in IKU 2020/2021 from Kemdikbudristek and received IDR 23.513 billion incentive,” Prof. Jamal explained.

This award was granted after the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology Kemdikbudristek RI assessed UNS performance under its status as PTN-BLU. UNS was placed in the high rank (10%) with 80 achievement points and 774 growth points. UNS also received a new status as Public University with Legal Entity (PTNBH) through PP No. 56/ 2020 signed by the President of Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo on 6 October 2020.

“And as PTNBH, the government gave a target to be the best 500 universities in Indonesia. So, be proud to be a part of UNS alumni because currently, UNS is a prestigious university,” he concluded.

Hope for the New IKA UNS Chairman

In the Munas V IKA UNS, Prof. Jamal hoped that the new chairman for IKA UNS is a strong and dedicated figure because he/she will lead more than 200 thousand UNS alumni in various regions in Indonesia and in several countries worldwide. The Rector also sent a message for the new chairman to take a lesson from the previous chairman, Ir. Budi Harto, whom Prof. Jamal considers to have a high commitment to push UNS to develop as a reputable university.

“Leading IKA UNS is not an easy task. It needs high commitment, and Pak Budi Harto leadership can be used as a benchmark. Let’s build our ‘home’ our beloved UNS with IKA UNS,” Prof. Jamal closed. Humas UNS

Wedangan IKA UNS discusses special themes; for example, not long ago, the meeting discussed the alumni’s success in being entrepreneurs, and now Wedangan IKA UNS provided a platform for the young alumni or “Alumni Millennials.” The stage for millennial alumni entered the 4^th round on Wednesday (24/11/2021). The Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, also attended the event online and welcomed the millennials alumni who will share their experiences.

“We are proud, happy with our young alumni who have excellent talents both at the regional and national level. I saw that the five young speakers tried to perform breakthrough. They do not depend on becoming state apparatus,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Further, Prof. Jamal emphasized that alumni involvement is one of the crucial matters in the university’s performance assessment because it is strongly related to alumni absorption in the working world.

“We all know that Kemdikbudristek asked all universities to achieve certain performance set by Kemdikbudristek with 8 Key Performance Indicators (IKU). The first IKU is related to this event, the number of undergraduate and diploma program graduates that achieve three indicators,” Prof. Jamal added.

The three indicators are the number of undergraduate and diploma program graduates who are employed, continuing study, and becoming entrepreneurs. Prof. Jamal hoped that Wedangan IKA UNS could inspire UNS students to follow the successful alumni’s steps.

Through this Business Forum discussion, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, as the Rector of UNS, hopes that the entire UNS academic members can prepare themselves to build Indonesia’s economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic crisis that has been occurred for almost 2 (two) years has affected several sectors, including the economic sector. Nevertheless, a breath of fresh air was delivered by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) with a report on Indonesia’s economic growth in the second quarter of 2021 by 7.07%. This shows that Indonesia’s economic recovery is in progress.

To support and encourage Indonesia’s economic recovery, members of IKA UNS share their ideas to assist the UNS stakeholders in contributing to restore the Indonesian economy through entrepreneurship development.

Entrepreneurship development is necessary for the national economy. A country will flourish when its entrepreneur ratio reaches more than 10%. Therefore, higher education institutions are the right place to create young entrepreneurs.

Higher education institutions can encourage new entrepreneurs through the provision of Entrepreneurship courses. Tung Desem Waringin, one of the UNS alumni who became a well-known motivator and marketing expert in Indonesia, said that the Entrepreneurship course is essential for students.

“In fact, this course also needs to be given to cross departments students. Students of the Faculty of Medicine also need to learn about entrepreneurship,” said Tung Desem.

Previously, Tung Desem Waringin emphasized that an Entrepreneurship course is different from Business Science. One of his children had the opportunity to study entrepreneurship at a reputable university. Meanwhile, his other child had the opportunity to study Business Science, which prompted Tung Desem Waringin to understand the difference between the two fields of knowledge.

“Entrepreneurship learns about how to find opportunities, turning opportunities into proposals, collecting data, team building, and ideas execution. This is what entrepreneurship means in the true sense,” added Tung Desem Waringin.

Meanwhile, business science discusses an entirely different topic related to business management, such as operation, human resources, and marketing.

 “When a business is established, then, it can be handed to those studying business to be managed,” said Tung Desem.

By providing Entrepreneurship courses, higher education institutions can nurture entrepreneurial spirit to accelerate Indonesia’s economic recovery post-Covid-19 pandemic. Similar notions were conveyed by Hariyadi Sukamdani, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo). Hariyadi said that there is an opportunity for entrepreneurial development in Indonesia after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“To take this opportunity, the young generation with excellent capacity at collaboration and partnership can establish networking with other sectors,” said Hariyadi.

Similar collaborations can be established between UNS and fellow entrepreneurs as liaisons. For example, by establishing consulting institutions initiated by the campus. Humas UNS
